Private renting, slugs help!

Options
I have lived in this privately rented property for two years and the whole time we have had slugs all over the ground floor. During the day you never, ever see them but at night they come out from wherever they hide and creep about the ground floor. I have tried beer traps, salt, slug pellets and slug powders (have treated where they seem to be coming in through the walls with powders, it doesn't stop them). Nothing works to keep them away. The little !!!!!!s are all over my ground floor and my carpet is trailed with slug trails every morning. I have ensured ever since I have lived here that the house is heated properly and well ventilated (I have a child with asthma). How the heck do I get rid of the slugs.

Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

Being serious now, what, are they doing, drilling holes, using chisels...? What sort of house has holes in the wall so big slugs can get in? Maybe they have some way of altering their molecular structure so they can simply pass through walls? Ghost slugs maybe? Can I perhaps suggest, FILLLING THE HOLES IN!!!!!

Thank you for that advice. Honestly I have filled in all the holes I can see, around the tv ariel wire and at the skirting boards, for example. The little blighters are still getting in. I have even tried following the slug trails in the mornings, but I think they are having a rave every night and so my carpet is covered in trails. Maybe a shotgun is the answer.

We have a slug problem near out front door at the moment... am trying to work out how to solve it too. Not tried anything yet as we have cats who will drink the beer traps, lick the salt and generally cause chaos.
Suspect staying up all night watching for where they come in (or using a cctv) will be what we have to do.
I did initially think that the cats might be bringing them in - but I hope not!

Well I have no cats, so I know its not that. They are a blooming menace, slugs not cats. I can well imagine your cats drinking the beer and partying on down tho,

Are they coming from the kitchen? Try checking underneath the units. You can usually pull the bottom plinth off. Beer will only attract them so don't use it inside the house. Salt or copper tape around the outside of the house may prevent more from coming in.

I remember an ant infestation in my car once. They were attracted to the sticky old boiled sweets in the glovebox. I was driving when I discovered them. I franticaly tried beating them on the move but had to pull over in the end because there were so many! Shows how keener sense of smell insects have.

Get a pet duck. They love slugs.

Agree with iyiarz, copper tape is good - most gardeners can vouch for that (may also be worth checking out the Greenfingered MS Board on here for other suggestions)

The slugs really can get through the smallest gaps- so as well as looking under the kitchen units, check where any pipework comes in/goes out and seal round it.
