Hello,
A slight gripe (well a big gripe with someone going beserk on the other end of the phone)..
Package sent at 11am Special Delivery on Monday, and arrives on Wednesday afternoon.. Attempting to claim isn't particularly straight forward as RM are quite evasive as to precisely how you do it. Anyway.. Form P58 now completed and sent off (copies kept and POP obtained). Off into the nether nether of the postal system.
Package sent today (Friday) at 12:38, says on the receipt Guaranteed Delivery Date : 28/06/2008 (Saturday). Paid the extra £2. You go to the RM site and type the number in, what does it say? Guaranteed Delivery Date : 30/06/2008. Those letters HAVE to get there tomorrow, it's a follow on from the one earlier on in the week.
I'm sorry to say this but it REALLY takes the biscuit when you're paying £5.05 and £6.60 to send something which HAS to get there, and still they can't get it right.
Everything is clearly labelled, printed delivery and sender's address. It couldn't be more straightforward.
So there we are. TWO, yes that's two, Special Delivery items fouled up in the space of as many days. How on Earth do they manage to get it so wrong?
It's Special Delivery, and with a premium price at that. Which they're not too happy about refunding either. They're all smiles and assurances until you hand your money over.
Rants.
The real irony is that I sent a plain scribbled 1st class letter yesterday evening and it arrived this morning. For 34p.

royal mail are terrible at dealing with complaints. you'd be better off making a complaint with the regulator Postwatch.0

Thank you.
Frankly, complaining about it will sap up even more time here. We're sorting out Probate and various property transfers prior to emigrating.. No one need ask why we're going..

are the letters going to a business or residential?
if its a business,do you know its open today?0 -
The special delivery date for stuff sent on Friday is the next working day which is Monday NOT the next day.
Also in some locations they have 3 working days in which to deliver the letter/parcel.
It's on their website:
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content3?mediaId=22700549&catId=400026
Therefore you are owed no compensation for the letters/parcels you sent on Friday, and they may not pay you for the items you previously sent.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -

And to quote the royal mail site:Available for a small surcharge (£2 extra per item) from Post Offices throughout the UK. Mail an item on a Friday and we can guarantee next day delivery even though it’s a Saturday. Items sent to the following business types are excluded from the Saturday Guarantee: Banks, Building Societies, Travel Agents, Jewellers and Post Office Branches.
So unless no one was there to sign for the item or one of the listed excluded businesses, it should've been there on saturday as the OP has paid the £2 surcharge...0 -

I think you have to complain to RM first, and only if at the end of the RM complaint process your complaints are still not resolved can you complain to the regulator.====0 -
I sent two claims to Royal Mail. One was an eBay item where I didn't have any proof of postage. Second was a cashback claim which was delivered for but no signature obtained. Got compensated appropriatly in both cases, although it did take a while.0

I currently have an open dispute with royal mail - sold a time sensitive item on ebay - some gig tickets (would just like to state that I am NOT one of those horrible people who buys tickets to sell on ebay! I was genuinely gutted that I couldnt go) - anyway paid for next day special delivery - arrived 12 DAYS LATER!
The dispute is open now but it was even hassle to place the dispute because the online tracking info stated that the item had been delivered on time which wasn't true urgh!0 -

thats an interesting one
that means the item made it to the delivery office on time and was alocated to a duty
be interesting to find out what happened though you will most likely never find out0 -

Yes it was very strange...the item was posted on the 25th May, it arrived 12 days later but on the online tracking it states that it arrived on the 6th June which was within the correct time frame, which clearly it wasn't...very strange...I wonder which point on the routeto my buyer it got lost, but you are right, I'll probably never know!
I do hate that, even though this would seem to be quite a cut and dry case, it is taking a while to get resolved...0
