Cracked W960i screen 1 month into 18 month 02 contract: options?

I received the phone 4 weeks ago last Saturday, but had strated the upgrade 6 weeks before then.

I received a refurbished model I wasn't happy with and they swapped it for a brand new phone, which I couldn't have been happier with.

A screen protector was bought from eBay and the phone was in immaculate condition until the screen cracked.

I don't know if it cracked in my pocket, as I switched the SIM into my K800i to take some photos with and awoke the following day to see it on the floor and turned it on to see it cracked to the extent where I cannot see anything on the screen (it is a touch screen phone).

There was nothing on the floor of my room as I had pretty much packed all my stuff away into boxes as I am moving soon.

I cannot take out insurance but I am furious that the screen broke so easily even though it was double protected.

A new one will cost £50 from eBay which I simply can't budge with right now and my K800i is perfectly functional and I will have to install it myself.

Would it be possible to get it repaired under warranty? Has anyone been in a similar position?

Might be possible, you could just say you placed it down on your desk and it cracked?

Whatever you say just don't say you don't know what happened.

I'm 90% sure it fell off my bed but onto, well, nothing but the floor.

With the soft casing (official Sony thing that came in the box) and the screen protector I'm amazed that it broke. It's low down and spread out across the screen.

It could, however, have been in my pocket.

What's annoying me is that I phoned O2 before it cracked about insurance and told I couldn't take it out so not only am I not covered but they're going to be totally sussed about it.

ARGH! I knew 18 month contracts would be a curse.

Someone who used to work at an O2 shop said that if I take it in they should be able to fix the phone if I show them the damage and explain it wasn't purposefully damaged (i.e dropped outside).

    Anyone enlighten?
