Puppy. When windows dies, your internet is hacked, you can't connect due to drivers etc, or HDD failure then Puppy and a usb stick alway (so far) seem to work.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0

try https://www.opera.com browser- it can make pages fit to screen width. Hope you have 512Mb RAM.
I use Mandriva & it works great. I tried others which didn't work fully.0 -
try teen puppy(a puppy linux version) if you want to play dvds ,music etcetera.
Ubuntu is nice for ease of use, adding KDE makes it a bit more like windows and easier I think. I needed gutsy gibbon to make my LCD monitor work as the previous version couldnt recognise it.
Its a good idea to check for linux drivers for such thing as wireless and video on the manufactureres websites.
The right video drivers can solve resolution problems.0 -

was gentoo but my new laptop bios has serious power management compatibility issues so now stuck on xp till solved grr0
