hi,
do BT offer any packages other than the 1,2,3 on the website?
i want 8 MB unlimited, but dont want to pay 35 a month inc line rental, and i need a 1 year min contract not 18 months...
i dont need a fancy wireless hub with a phone on it, or wifi minutes etc...
i would sacrifice some speed to pay less, but i cant have a tiny download limit like 5/8 GB
the BT options dont seem to make any sense, what possible use is up to 8 MB speed when you have a monthly limit of 5 GB?
will they do a 4 or 8 MB unlimited on a wired router for less? or is it designed to force you on an expensive package if you want unlimited...?
also any advice on other providers would be good, im in a non-cable area, prob for just a year, and prob wont be thanked for switching from BT phone line if theres a large charge to reconnect...
cheers

Tiscali do a deal at the moment which includes your line rental and broadband. I think it is also unlimited use. £14.99/month springs to mind for the first package (which may have a monthly usage limit and is free calls at weekend and evenings) and £19.99/month for the better option which I seem to recall is unlimited usage and free calls during the daytime too.
There is however a £30 setup fee, but you save that by not paying BT for a few months, they may be open to negotiation if you tell them you don't want a wireless router etc.
You will need to check if you can have your line rental with Tiscali in your area, I think there is a simple check on the web site where you enter your post code or phone number.
Also new customers usually get a discounted rate for the first 3 months.
This is the one that springs to mind but there may be other similar offerings out there to be had.0 -
Take BT Broardband Option DON'T DO IT!
BT are a poor service with awful speeds. Which you pay £34 for. So what you would be best with is Tiscali. Its cheap and fast.
Can you tell im annoyed with BT!0 -
thanks for replies,
got BT phone line, should become active today...
pretty much decided to go for O2, cheaper than tiscali and much better reviews...

Pretty much all ADSL is adaptive rate these days, thats why you see the "Up To 8Mb" etc, you'll find that all providers are offering products in this way, they won't sell you a 3Mb or a 4Mb or a 5Mb service, it will just be as fast as you line will go - a lot less than 8Mb in most cases
There's really no direct comparison between line speed and download limits, ie plenty of people will have a high sync rate, close to 8Mb because the live close to the exchange, but only download very little data because they only surf and send/receive email. Just because your line syncs faster, dosent mean you'll download more data.0 -
I at the moment am with Virgin but want to change because of the price but also the service. I have read a lot about different providers but I do not know how(because I am thick and OLD) to get a line. I have got a line from BT to my house but I have not used it since NTL came to this area years ago so does anyone know if I have to go back to BT to get a line connected, and if I do that I will be in a 12 month contract, and I though of going with Talk Talk or O2 or something but it is so confusing I don't know what to do.
Thanks for any help
