Surely trading standards should be closing all these down PRONTO before this practice gets out of hand?? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

MORE FOOL THE FOOL FOR BUYING.....It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Surrey Guadian - Win my house for only £10
Bolton News - Family raffle £1 million VillaA Chessington man, at his wits’ end with the struggling housing market, is offering his house in a raffle. Tim Sheppard, 35, came up with the idea after surfing the internet and decided it was the perfect option to sell his house, which was put on the market a year ago and has yet to sell.
Raffle tickets for the three-bedroom semi-detached house in Chessington Hill Park will cost £10 and the draw will be held independently to avoid any complications or bias.If the couple sell all of the 200,000 raffle tickets they will raise £5 million.
If all the tickets are not sold by January, a draw will be held and the winner will get 65 per cent of the cashpot, with the Connells keeping 35 per cent, which they say will cover the costs of running the competition. They will then sell the business and house on the open market

so they will have all the incentive for the tickets not to be sold up to the target so that they can swallow the 30-35% admin costs.
whats more amazing is the bolton property costing 1 million pounds is being sold to raise 5million pounds !!!! via the raffle instead of the 1million the property is supposedly worth. yes i know they are including a business as well, but wonder if it is actually worth what they claim
nice deal, if they do reach the target they get 5 million instead of 1 million. if they dont sell (which they wont even if they sell 4.5million pounds worth raffle tickets) then they still get to keep 1.5 million in admin fees and keep the 1million property as well.
the only people laughing their way to the bank will be the sellers, apart from the winner of the cash pot of course.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
yes its possibly open to abuse, but given the ernie (premium bonds) has been manipulated to reduce your odds of winning the 1M, and the lottery was awarded to camelot AGAIN under what was questionably reasons versus the richard branson bid - I have decided to waste money for two tickets ( as a previous poster said - cheaper than a dinner out) + all im doing is wasting a bit of the money I saved from never playing the lottery :rotfl:0

I am amazed at the amount of cynicism out there in terms of these competitions, we all know that you don't get something for nothing, but lets look at what can be gained! why are some people so negative!?!

Have you even checked out the website and the small print?!?! i doubt it, as there are guarantees placed on it with the solicitors in terms of valuations etc. also it is clear that your math is all at sorts, as they are not just raffling the villa...it is a business and a Harley Davidson Motorcycle as well.
I agree that admin costs in relation to the percentage is high, but what real effect does that have on the £25 ticket? absolutely none, for example, if only 100,000 tickets are sold, then the villa/business/Harley will not be given as the prize, however the money which will equate to £2,500,000, less 35%(875,000) will mean that for £25 i have a 1 in 100,000 chance of winning £1,625,000... now, in my book that ain't too bad! and worth a punt! why shouldn't the owners profit from it?!? isn't that the purpose of 90% of raffles etc in the world!? why would you do one otherwise.
admittedly the 30% seems high but so what, why shouldn't they get anything out of it?
We are all adults and able to make informed choices from the information put in front of us.
So, to put it simply, if you want to buy a ticket, buy one, if you don't, don't, but it is best not to critical about something without reading the full facts and coming across as a cynic.
Remember - If you do as you always did, you will always get what you always got,.
so I for one think it is a good opportunity and possibly £25 well spent, to get a £1million pound villa, and a business valued at £4million and a Harley Davidson, so i am buying a ticket to this instead of spending my £3.50 a week on the lottery a week for 7 weeks with odds of 14million to 1!

Why such an emphasis on a silly motorbike?? It's not as if that can make any dent on £5 Million
Everyones entitled to an opinion be it positive or negative.
My opinion is that it's all nonsense. People will buy tickets and hear no more about it, Definitley not worth a punt for me.0 -
It's certainly not 'novel', these have been going on for over 25 years to my knowledge.
But I've yet to hear of one where the desired amount of money has been raised, ie I've never heard of anyone winning the house. Often, as in one of the links, the police have become involved as a result.
If he sells a huge amount of tickets, the odds against you winning will be enormous. If he doesn't, the reward won't be worth it due to the deduction of costs. And that's without the concern of how the draw would be regulated.0 -
If he sells 199,999 tickets, he gets to keep 35% which is £1,784,591.25p and his home and business. They have had huge amounts of free advertising to boost ticket sales. Running costs I would imagine to be in the thousands not hundreds of thousands. Could mean a profit of £1.5 Million.
This might be the reason they have a £1 million property and a £4 million pound business and property in USA. These people are very shrude.
Yes your odds of winning are better than the lottery jackpot. ie 1 in 14,000,000 for a £1 ticket. Or 1 in 560,000 for £25 worth.
So realistically your odds are 1 in 5,000,000 for every pound spent or 1 in 200,000 for £25.
Tempting? yes. Realistic? no.
Also they are moving to a country where these competitions are illegal. What would your comeback be once they live in the USA?To win a competition gives you the spirit to carry on (Comping).0
