Citroen C4 Servicing & Parts - £1000+

Hi all,

I am trying to work out what the costs should be for servicing my C4.

It's 3 years old and just within warranty.

I took it into Citroen and am paying:
- £197.99 for a 3rd year service.
- £89.99 for an air conditioning service and regassing.
- £30 for an MOT down from £50

However, they rang and said:
- front brake pads and (joints I think) were 90% worn and cost £300 to replace.
- rear brake pads and (joints I think) were 90% worn and cost £360 to replace.
- something else which was covered under warranty as I said there was a problem with acceleration on the car.

I assume this includes labour, but don't know if it inclues VAT.

Would appreciate it if someone could give me a run down on how much they would be charging (assume genuine Citroen parts) so that I am a bit more knowledgeable when I go into Citroen to further discuss this.

Thanx

AMO

Outrageous. Pay for the service and say thankyou very much.

Pads should be <£25 per axle. Discs (what you have called joints?) I'm not sure about but probably <£35 a pair (you need to check though). Fitting you could do yourself? But anyway a small independant would be a lot cheaper.

I would have though around £250 would be more than enough (£120+/- for the parts).

I will add a caveat that I know nothing about C4s and might be missing something.

Not sure about Citroens but that sounds mighty expensive. I'd pay for the service and leave it at that. Call round elsewhere for prices on the work required.

Well its dealer rip off prices once again, nothing new there. Don't get them to replace the parts, u should go to a local mechanic and ask them to look to see if the parts actually need replacing, as often dealer just want to rip u off for parts that doesn't need replacement (most likely to be pads and discs). Even if it does needed replacement it should cost about £250 for parts and labour as hintza had said.
  • I wouldn't even discuss it. In fact all I'd do would be collect the car and ask to see the dealer principal.

Then get that person to explain how they can feel they are offering good service by charging such extremely high prices, and if they want your continued custom.
  • Dealers have high overheads, if AMO wasnt happy with the prices shouldnt have gone main dealer in the 1st place.

Genuine citroen brake disc/pads kits are not cheap, they would be/should be only charging an hour an axle to change them.

On these newer citroens they brakes are not as easy to change as normal cars due to the caliper set ups, if you cant do it yourself go to a back street garage or better still find a decent mobile mechanic or go rond the back for the main dealer and offer cash to one of the technicians.

this link shows gsf dont do c4 stuff yet:

depending on if your car has eps the discs even cheap cheap rubbish are £35 plus vat trade price each
I maybe crap with money but im good with cars;)

    Hi all,

It's not a question of being happy or unhappy with prices UWM, its just that I have nothing to compare with and I was put on the spot when I got a call. My car was in the garage all day today and will be there on Saturday also.

I mainly want to know how I can find out how much genuine Citroen brake pads cost on Citroen C4s and how long it should take to replace each brake pad so I can work out the expected cost. Obviously I'd factor in the fact that main dealers have higher labour costs, but I want to know a few costs so that I can double check.

From people's posts, it would take an 4 hours labour to change all four axles. The cheapest labour per hour from garage's on the Parkers website is about £55 / hour, so I guess I should expect at least £220 labour right?

So its all down to the cost of the parts. How can I find out how much the genuine brake pads cost on a Citroen C4?

    Thanx

I've recently down graded to a Citroen, its due a 60k service soon.

I rang roung a few dealers and got pricing and played them of against each other.

As said previously, pay for the service and no more- a local independant will be much better value for money and use OEM parts as well (if youre worried about the quality aspect).

The aircorn- if not cold enough is a warranty issue, not an extra.

And if you want to know how much parts are, ring the parts department and ask- or use somewhere like eurocarparts, or german, swedish and french- all on the www.

Thanks for that. I'm going to ring around a few dealers to get a few quotes, both Citroen dealers and non-Citroen dealers.

I wouldn't get too hung up on "Genuine" parts there are plenty of very good companies manufacturing after market parts.

If it was me I would probably be trotting round to m y local:-

    Hi all,

Sorry, I found out that they are going to change all the brake discs as well.

Also, they told me that the discount they were going to give me is 10% off parts and labour goes down from £70/hr to £60/hr.

They have yet to work out the final cost.

    Thanx.
