Is it worth taking out an NHS pension at age 54?
I am about to start a new job in the NHS. I have never had a pension. Would it be financially worthwhile taking out an NHS pension now at the age of 54, (55 in April)? Thanks for any advice.

Paying next years contributions before the end of this tax year
I have a private pension scheme which is managed Zurich. I make regular contributions by monthly direct debit (and have done so for the past 27 years or so). My work situation is changing and as a result, in the short term (perhaps for the next year) I will revert from being a higher rate tax payer to a basic rate tax…

cashing in a small pension
I have a work pension that is current worth about £5k. I will be 55 this year, under the rules as I understand them I can take a small pension if it is £2k or less but would have to wait until I am 60 to take the whole amount if it remains under £18K by that time. My question is can I split this work pension by putting it…

Pension from 1989, maybe?
Today my wife and I got a notice from DWP stating what our OAP pension would be from April and I suddenly remembered that she worked at a factory from 1977 until 1988, this factory no longer exists. We also moved to another town then. I tried googling the place she worked at but it no longer exists. It closed down in 1990.…

Transferring frozen pension
Can a pension last paid into (and frozen) in 2006 have it's total pension pot amount transferred into a new auto enrolment company pension? The pension provider on the new auto enrolment pension is the same as that on the frozen pension.

14 months from SIPP drawdown - which provider??
I retired early last year (aged 53), but can't start drawdown on my SIPP until April 2015. In the meantime I'm shopping around for the most cost-effective SIPP provider(s) for my circumstances, and was wondering whether anyone was in a similar position and could offer any suggestions? I currently have a SIPP with…

Existing pension, auto enrolment, IFA costs megabucks, what do
2 years ago I read the MSE pension article and decided I'd better get on with it ASAP (age/2 = 14.5% is nicer than 15.5%, it all adds up) so saw an IFA and started a stakeholder pension with Aegon. The auto enrolment was potentially a long time off depending on how much my employer chose to drag their feet. Now they're…

Does anyone understand the teacher pension scheme?
So here is my situation. I've been paying into the scheme for the past 8 years. Then I had 1 school year break. Then I returned to teaching on a much lower salary. I'm considering leaving the teaching profession but am a little scared about what I've just done to my pension. Basically in the school year 11-12 I earned…

Pensions for wife
Are there any products around that would be better value than an ordinary pension by only paying out if I pre-decease my wife? The reason is that I have a career average, defined benefit scheme that will pay out close to 100% of average pay if I retire at state pension age, but only pays 37.5% as a widow' pension - As my…

LGPS - Rule of 85
Hi, First of all can i say what a great forum this is. I've been reading it with interest over the last few months and as a result I've begun to set up a basic spreadsheet to help with future projections about expenditure and pension income and how we may (or may not) deal with it in our retirement. Its very early days (we…

Not being offered a Pension (Part time)
Hi All, I was told by an ex colleague today that they claimed £22,000 off of the co-op (our ex employer) as they didn't allow part time employees to have a pension and apparently this has been made illegal by the EU. I've had a Google and I can't see anything about how you claim for it or any information about it. Does…

Best place to hold low cost tracker funds, post RDR
Hi all, My wife and I currently have pension pots of £75k and £85k respectively. Mine is in a Skandia CRA and my wife's is in an HL SIPP. Work / Private Pension
I recently spoke to my boss about him providing a pension for me and he asked his payroll company and they said that he won't be "forced" into the government campaign until sometime in 2017. He said his payroll said it would involve too much paperwork to do it before he actually had to, but my boss said he was willing to…

Pension Transfer Value
I was only in my last job for 14 months and got my pension transfer value (for transferring to my new employer's scheme). The transfer value is £1440.21. Further down on the form, it says: "Amount of pension that the above transfer value would buy: £212.01 p/a" Does this mean that it equates to £212.01 per annum once I…

Annuity
I've recently taken more interest in my pension policies as I get nearer to retirement. I haven't paid into them for many years as I decided a long time ago to make my own provision in retirement.
