Pre-IPO investing
What "funds" can be bought by retail investors that consist mainly of private/pre-IPO companies? Primarily in new technologies across all sectors, eg agri-tech, bio-tech, energy-tech. Yes I know they would be high risk. TYIA

Passive Income Strategies
I'm looking for people's thoughts on a realistic passive income yield, and the options for achieving that. In terms of numbers, let's say around £250k and it can be locked away for 5 / 10 years. I was drawn towards BTL but that seems more hassle these days, so I'm leaving thinking some sort of global income fund but not…

Neil Woodford makes a comeback
Surely with such a tarnished reputation, he'll struggle to attract investors, even if it is limited to professional investors only? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56060960

Tandem - issues?
Does anyone on here use Tandem as per top pics for rates on here? It's all setup and working, I did one transaction for £1 to test, but then Lloyds told me a £10k transfer would take me over a daily limit, £1k worked, 5k looked to work then Tandem told me it was unsuccessful then the app just stalled and keeps whirring…

Fixed saver ending thinking of Premium Bonds
Hi Have 30k saved in fixed rate saver ending soon , looking round the rates are real low , best instant access 0.5% , best fixed 1 year approx 0.6% So thinking might be worth trying Premium Bonds to see if rates pick up later in 2021 Don't want to fix for 5 years @ 1.25% .... have read MSE premium bond guide and seems to…

Investment strategy - any old hands here with good advice?
Hi, I'm new here and am seeking some thoughts / opinions about my shares. I'm fed up with our savings being used by businesses that are wrecking lives and the environment (and my ISA only paying 0.25% interest!), so invested in some shares, where I can choose what's being done with my money; I've got investments in: INV1:…

If you had £100 P/W to "Invest", what would you do with it?
I have been working hard for quite a few years to pay off my debts and I hope to be by September debt free (no mortgage). I have been rejigging things, canceling nonessentials, and living a good level frugal life for years now, I was 20k in debt 12 years ago with 8 CCJ's at one point. By the end of this year, I should also…

Using LISA towards mortgage on partners property
Does anyone know if you can use the LISA towards a mortgage that a partner already has? This is the situation my and my partner are in currently.....He has a house and mortgage in his name and I have a LISA I want to use towards my first house. Can I use this money to 'buy in' to his mortgage rather than moving and buying…

Credit Suiisse 2.7% bond
An elderly relative has asked me whether an 18 month Bond from credit Suisse with 2.7% is genuine. Series SPLB2016-0KB1. Apparently they looked at Investments on a well-known comparison site and that has led to a number of calls from various brokers. It certainly looks plausible but Google does not help much here and 2.7&…

What happens when that day comes?
Sorry to bring up the morbid one. My wife and I are both in our mid 40s yes plenty of years ahead but we got thinking what would happen if one of us croaked. We own our house outright, we operate separate bank accounts and whilst we do have a joint account it was to make transferring money between us easier. We both have…

Bitcoin mining
Not that I will ever use it, but just for interest , Ive been trying to understand how Bitcoin works. https://money.howstuffworks.com/bitcoin.htm explanation seems very good and straightforward (although obviously I can't judge really) -- but Im unclear on the mining part. I get that a bitcoin is the reward, but is all the…

NW's bizarre Triple Access A/c interest
In this example Nationwide have attempted to explain the interest you would get if you exceed 3 withdrawals in a year. Well, it would surely be reduced to either 9p or 10p for the whole year, so how on Earth has somebody calculated it as £1.71?? Am I missing something? Well actually I am, I've opened the account and now…

transfer shares from one platform to another
Why do people request for transfers, when they can just sell at one platform and buy the shares back at the second platform?

Non-payment (so far at least) of Premium Bond prize money won this month!
Hello everyone! I wonder if anyone can help me with this:- For the first time ever since I first saved into Premium Bonds (more than 2 years) the prize money (£75 from 3 x £25 prizes) that I was fortunate to win this February has not yet been paid into my nominated bank account, a NS&I Direct Saver. In all previous months…

VLS limitation, is there a solution within the Vanguard 'stable'?
Although VLS funds are widely mentioned as a decent cheap diversified option, one criticism that gets made is that they are biased towards the UK, so not that good if you want more global coverage and the potential growth (and of course risk) that goes with it. Assuming that's the case (and interested in views if not..),…

Investment for pensioners ?
A friend is of pensionable age, owns her own home outright , has a state pension and also an index linked DB pension. The income from the dual pensions is enough to live the lifestyle they want. They have some spare cash doing nothing and would consider investing it in an accumulation fund for growth. My initial thoughts…

What now for BT..?
I wonder what people think about BT as an investment? True if you had held it since privatisation (£1.30) you have had 36 years worth of dividends but the share price has ebbed and flowed and has reached the dizzy heights of over £10 and wallowed as low as 98 pence but hat of the future? BT is trying to restructure, it is…

Can share/fund ownership be transferred 'in-specie'
I know it's possible to move brokers/platforms without selling and repurchasing. Is it possible to transfer ownership the same way? My question relates specifically to an inheritance situation but I'm interested in the answer more generally too. And no, it's not to try and avoid paying CGT or IHT. thanks

Trustee accounts
I'm the sole Trustee of a Will Trust and need to open a Trustee account until the beneficiary reaches age 25 (in 20 months time). The money has been with NS&I in Guaranteed Growth Bonds until recently. I've tried 25 different banks etc and only found 2 (Skipton Building Society and Barclays) which offer Trustee accounts at…
