Starting Investing
I've managed to save 50K over the years, which I now want to invest. I'm happy to not touch it for 10 - 15 years (I'm 36). I have a house with no mortgage and additional funds to last me a couple of years if need be as well. I don't know much about investing and neither do I have a lot of time to spend on it, so I'd want…

Premium bonds - likelihood of achieving the 1.4% (soon to be 1.3%) headline rate in prizes
Morning all. Mrs RC and I are higher and additional rate taxpayers, and we're seriously looking at premium bonds as an option for cash savings, because even at 1.3%, that would gross up to way beyond anything else we could get around instant access savings (which I believe these now operate effectively as). Obviously…

Absolutely clueless re: what to do for the best.
Hi all, Husband and I have around 27K sitting in the bank - inheritance. We want it to produce SOME kind of a return or whatever the correct term is. We're absolutely not investing it into any stocks or shares or such like - this is all we have and we're not prepared to loose a penny of it. We simply want to have, broadly…

I finally opened a stocks and shares isa.
After delaying it for months and months waiting for a pull back, I finally decided now is the time. I don't care if it drops more from here, it's just nice knowing I'm not buying at the complete top and a 13% discount is better than nothing. I decided to go with a US 500 index tracker as the UK market has been a complete…

Where to invest now the coronavirus has hit the markets
I had the intention to put my 400k savings into investments in the stock market through an IFA or online platform. However due to the recent turmoil in the markets can anyone advise me where would be a sensible to invest in. I've read that gold is on the up or thought about holding off until the markets hit rock bottom and…

Market Correction Strategy
I have approx 15k in an ISA which I’m watching slowly disintegrate with the current effect of the virus issues. I don’t contribute regularly so it’s effectively a lump sum. The advice often seems to be to wait out corrections in the market but would it make sense to sell now and re-invest once the depth of the market and…

Paying inheritance into an ISA
This is my first ever post on an MSE forum. I’m hoping some of you lovely people might be able to help. I’m expecting to receive a modest inheritance in the near future (share of the proceeds from the sale of my grandmother’s house). I’m trying to find out if it is possible to have the money paid directly into an ISA in my…

LF Woodford Equity Income Fund
Received a letter from my pension provider today detailing how much I'll get back. I'm already drawing down. I've lost over £16,000 which I find pretty devastating. I have paid for FA advice all the way down the line, so how has this happened?

Selecting a fund for 2055 retirement/pension
I took a look at my Aviva pension (work pension) the other week and it seemed like it was quite bond heavy and not enough shares - I'm new to investing but thinking that more shares = riskier but I'm only 25 so retirement is 35-45? years away so time for bad things to recover. Pension has got just over 29k in at the…

iweb portfolio - Lifestrategy vs ISA S&S
Hi folks. I am new to all this and could do with a little advice. I am looking to transfer my current bank account ISAs to a stocks and share ISA with iWeb. I have read up on the advantages of an investor of my age sticking with a balanced portfolio of 60% stocks 40% bonds, this makes sense to me. Can I ask how I would set…

Dividends calculation
I hope someone could clarify this Say a company's shares were valued at £100 and they paid £5 dividend. (ie 5%) The share price collapses to £50 All other aspects being equal, would the dividend remain at £5, (now 10%), or follow the collapse so remain at 5% of £50 = £2.5 Thanks

Making the most of my savings

Let's step back from the latest panic / non-panic, and look at how much each of us has in different tax wrappers — as percentages of total assets, because it would be vulgar to disclose how much we have in £ :) Today I have approximately:42% PPR (i.e. own home)32% ISA14% Unwrapped12% Pension Some rules:Only DC Pension pots…

Aegon - a company with serious customer service issues
Like many I was an investor in the
failed Woodford fund, in early February we received the first payment following
its winding up. I received payments through Fidelity and Aegon (cofunds). The
story of how each company handled the process could not be more different with
Aegon a tale of obstruction, incompetence and…
