IFA ongoing fee..Why pay?
I get why people go to a Financial Adviser initially, and I get why people may revisit when circumstances change, but why in the world pay an FA or IFA when the investment plan is ticking over? If there were to be a seismic event affecting financial mkts., your FA is likely to spew more dust than Krakatoa, but unlikely to…

The money was invested through St. James Place around my 16th birthday, in a fixed term contract till I'm 21 without my permission or even…

Investment Gift Ideas for 13 & 16 year olds?
We'd like to give our nephews (13 and 16) £100 each (not a fortune I know). We'd like to give it as an investment to introduce them to saving/investing. My immediate thought are Premium Bonds, but I had to wait nearly 25 years before I won anything on the ones given to me when I was born. Is there anything else that they…

Post Office Interest
My annual interest rate bonus just came to an end, but the interest has not been paid. I seem to recall that a payment was mid-way in March/April (probably to fall in line with the tax year), but the months after that will have accrued interest and this has not been accounted for. Is it paid near the end of each tax year…

I am a trustee for my nephew and niece and would like to invest 55k in a tax efficient manner in their names. I’m not too keen on an annual tax return. A friend said a barre trust might be an option. Does anyone know of any bare trust investment providers. And anyone have any experience of these? Thanks in advance

Investment
Hi all, i’m Looking for some advice as to what to do with £20000, I’ve come into. As i’m Seventy seven years old I do not want to invest in stocks and shares. This is money I will not need for say 12 months or so, so my question is, would it be better to put into a cash isa, or a higher paying interest fixed account, I…

Quidco question
How do you know if the item you're buying is actually included in the cashback category? For example I clicked on Amazon (10% cashback for all shoes, handbags, wallets and sunglasses) and picked a wallet but how do I actually know if said wallet is valid for the discount? Well a wallet is obviously a wallet you're probably…

Bye Bye Ratsetter - did you get tonight's T&C's changes email
After the Funding Circle mess over recent times ('goalposts' topic below) I was in two minds about leaving significant funds in what I considered the safest P2P but the email they sent out tonight (changes to T&C's - suspend withdrawals, wind-down fees etc) has me fed up (and slightly more spooked) enough to call it a day.…

Investment Charges
Hello, I am looking at starting a stocks and shares investment with the Nationwide. Apart from charges each month, they say there will be an initial £600 fee for advice and going through the whole process at the beginning. This seems a lot of initial fees to me, I would just like to ask if anyone who has took out…

Investing in EIS businesses
Hi all, I've recently signed up to Crowdcube and have placed a couple of investments, to a total of £4,500. One of them was in a business called Nova, who start startups, it looks really interesting and it's listed as 'EIS' qualifying. From the reading I've done I understand that there are certain tax benefits I could be…

VWRP vs. LS 100
Dear knowledgeable people, A quick, and hopefully simple question .. Is Vanguard VWRP [FTSE All-World UCITS ETF] comparable, as an EFT, with Vanguard LifeStrategy 100% Equity ? i.e. If I was to sell some of the fund and buy the EFT, would this be pretty much a "like for like" swap ? I'm asking because I assumed it was, but…

Scottish Mortgage IT dividend recieved?
Before contacting x-o to enquire as to why I haven't received the SMT dividend that was (supposedly) paid last Friday, I thought I'd just check whether it's just me or whether other people haven't received theirs? (and if so what platform you hold this IT on)

Complex ways to earn more interest
The MSE weekly email often provides ideas for what I would think of as "complex" ways of increasing terms on savings accounts - ie methods that don't just involve switching to another account, but using an account in a different way to how it was intended. I'm talking about, for example: - Drip-feeding a lump sum into…
