How safe is Funding Circle?
I am currently trying to decide what best to do with my savings to beat inflation without tying it all up for many years. I have come across Funding Circle and put in £10K to start off with, the returns look great at 7.5% and I would like to put in the rest (about £240K) but I'm not sure I understand the risks properly,…

Changing savings account with a possible Bank of England's base rate change soon
Hi there, So there's lots of talk about the possibility of the Bank of England base rate going up soon and with this in mind, my question is this. Do I change my current ISA account (currently at 0.50%) to one that's offering 1.06% or do I wait it out? Thanks! :)

Kent Reliance. Has anyone used them?
I've just started to open a 1 yr fixed bond with Kent Reliance but am unsure whether or not to proceed given a few mixed reviews. Has anyone had any recent experience of them?

Old premium bonds - checking winnings?
Got some old ones. Talking 45 years old.... Probably never ever been checked. Is there anyway to check them at all - for anything ever? Only about £20 but surely something would have been won?

Children not being able to access money until they're 25
My nephew and niece were recently left money by their grandfather, Not a huge amount but they already have quite a bit of money saved which they will get when they're 18. Their mother does not want them to have access to any more money until they are 25. Kids ages are currently 15 and 11. What are the options? Thank You in…

Bonds - still so confusing...
A few months into DIYing I still find bonds are the sector I don’t sufficiently understand (despite having read bowlhead et al from dawn til, well, an hour or two after dawn). Equities, by comparison, seem relatively straightforward. Either go passive, or choose your geographies, sectors and company sizes then sit back and…

Simple Strategy for Beginner
I'm thinking of a simple method that's trouble free and cost effective to build up a capital sum over a longish (10+) years. I've come up with investing in just one fund, the top fund for returns over the last six months, and then in six months review the top earning fund at the time and swapping if necessary. Then…

Charter Savings Bank ID Requirements?
Hi. Just been online, opened a 30 day notice account, seemed easy enough. Asked me if I had lived at my current address for longer than six months; I have... Opened a few accounts recently, never had to send anything via paper mail for ID purposes... They have been vague in whether I will need to send the documents? Do…

Novice investment fund
Hi all, I'm 38, working full time, paying into a public sector pension and have 6 months insurance on my wages in the event of needing to take time off work. I have no debt and currently have approx £5k premium bonds and £6k just sat in a sub account in my standard Barclays account. I don't think it earns any interest…

Why doesn't everyone just buy Vanguard LifeStrategy?
I'm fairly new to this investing thing and have a fair amount of cash invested in Vanguard LifeStrategy funds. In the three weeks or so that I have had them they seem to have gone up nearly 2%. I've been reading a lot about investing both online and in the books that I have seen frequently recommended. I've concluded that…

Ideas for investing £70k now for uni in 2018?
My son inherited some money from his grandfathers estate a few years ago. It has been held in trust ( I was a trustee), but he is 18 in a few months and I want to help him decide what to do with it in preparation for him going to Uni in 2018. He is pretty level-headed and we've already agreed that I will help him manage…

Shareholder perks (benefits) - best value brokers?
Plenty of shareholder benefits out there, but frequently not available when the shares are held in a nominee account, as they usually are. From MSE: Shareholder perks While investments should be chosen for their potential to hopefully make you some money, shareholder perks can be a welcome bonus. These are no longer…

Sad day at Yorkshire BS
Yorkshire BS offered the best account in the world. A regular saver offering a 3.5% annual bonus. Originally this was in addition to a 0.25% annual interest rate, recently cut to 0.05%. Other societies simply withdrew similar accounts when interest rate plummeted to 0.25% but YBS stuck to their commitment (unlike, for…

Investing in funds outside ISA
I am trying to work out how to invest an inheritance. I have used my pension and ISA allowance. I would like to invest a bit in funds outside an ISA. If my dividend is less than £2000 I should avoid dividend tax. Also avoiding Capital Gains Tax. Do I have to sell each year and buy a new fund? Bit confused by all the…

Tax on acc funds
Sorry if this has been asked before... What is the tax liability for acc investment funds held outside of a tax wrapper? I naively assume that tax would be payable upon selling units in the event that the sale realised a value greater than the capital gains allowance for that year. However, I suspect that things might not…
