Help to buy ISA transfer to Lifetime ISA
Hi all, I'm trying to work out the best strategy for having both a Lifetime ISA and Help to Buy ISA. I currently have a HTB ISA with a balance of £3460, and am looking at opening a cash LISA to take advantage of the increased limits. I currently contribute £200/month into my HTB ISA. I plan on opening a cash LISA when one…

CGT on Shares?
I bought £40,000 of 8 FTSE 100 shares in Nov 2013 the value went down to around £25,000 in Jan 2016 but have now returned to around £37,000. If I sell them all do I pay CGT since they have increased in value in the last year or do I pay nothing since overall I've lost £3,000?

Which Fund?
I wondered if anyone knows of a website/search function where I can find out which funds hold a particular stock. Let's say for instance I want to invest in Barclays but rather than hold the shares directly I want to hold a fund that might have a holding in Barclays. I know you can select Funds and drill into their…

Two TSB accounts - different interest
Hello MSE-ers, I'm just curious to know if this has happened to anyone else. I have two TSB classic plus accounts (I've had them a couple of years I think). Both have £1500 in them, and the only transactions are the required £500 going in (and out) each month, and me sweeping the interest out each month. This month, one…

Does interest affect interest???
So I've got a nationwide saver account with an interest rate of 5% on £2500. My question is once the interest is paid each month and it takes the amount above £2500 will I still get the 5% interest? Or do I need to take the extra money out of the account?

Moneyfacts saving search tool
Moneyfacts have made changes to their savings search tool overnight. While it presents some improvements, they have removed all the useful filters. It was very useful to be able to filter out accounts with opening conditions and to show only those with online account management. Now I can see no way to do that.

New business venture
I hate burglars. The insurance company refuses to insure me unless I put in an alarm system by a recognised professional for ~£700, AND pay ~£100 for an annual service. The prisons are full, so even if we catch them, there's nowhere to put them. If I was Bill Gates, I would set up a non-profit organisation, which catches…

What's higher risk equities or peer to peer
Hi just gauging opinion really for my own interest as I don't actually think there's a right or wrong answer on this. how do people view cash vs equities(in this case meaning funds rather than individual shares ) vs the more well known peer to peer sites (rate-setter zopa funding circle) in terms of risk of capital loss.…

Investment in science especially electric cars
Does anyone know of any funds which invest in new technologies such as electric cars/ferries/planes and/or new sources of energy? I know there are companies such as Tesla in the US, but I was thinking of a fund I could buy through my Charles Stanley Direct UK platform which may include companies like Tesla.

Cavendish/Fidelity and fees
The last hour on google hasn't helped me I'm afraid, so I apologise in advance for what's probably a couple of stupid questions coming up... After a couple of years perusing this site and building up my cash reserves, I finally took the plunge and opened a S & S ISA a few months back.I picked Vanguard Lifestrategy 60 via…

Hi everyone, Can I open a standard cash ISA and a lifetime ISA in the same year? Can I pay into multiple ISAs each year? I came into some unexpected inherticane to the value of just under £50,000. I want to use…

Selling shares/Capital gains/ISAs
Hi, I'm sure this is asked a lot did a quick search, couldn't quite find what I was after. I'm not an investor so I'm very unclear on what to do. I have some shares from a previous company I bought through a share save scheme a long time ago. I've been holding onto them for a rainy day not really worried about them.…

When should I open the 2017-18 ISA?
Hi, Given that there is such a rush to get the savings in before the ISA deadline, does this mean that I should be holding my savings in other saving forms during the year and just investing near the deadline? I have £20k that I could put into an ISA(s) on Thursday, so I'm interested as to what the best thing to do with it…

Halifax Savers Prize Draw
I know that the £5000 is pooled across qualifying accounts in any one month. I currently have an Instant Saver but if I opened an Everyday Saver today and transferred across the funds from Instant to Everyday, will it be deemed as me having a 5,000 holding for this month (April) for the next draw? Sorry if this seems a…

Closing Help To Buy ISA - do I still get bonus?
Hi, After deciding house buying is out of the question for me, at least for now. I have instead decided that I want to use all of the £20k tax free allowance for the upcoming tax year within a Stocks and Shares ISA. This means I need to close my Help To Buy ISA. This currently has £2600 in it, which equates to a £650 bonus…
