Best Fund Platform for Small Investment
I have a couple of cash ISA's that have reached maturity and have decided to put them in a S&S ISA. I don't have any great knowledge of investing and therefore am looking at the Vanguard Lifestyle 60 or 80 and don't need the money for a minimum of 5 years. Looking at platforms to use I have seen that iweb have relatively…

LISA accts
Hi Quick question I can't seem to find an answer to from googling, If I was to start a LISA for a first house purchase and complete that purchase in the future, does that then stop me from a new LISA in the future for pensions purposes? (if so is it better to just keep my help to buy isa then open a lisa once I've bought a…

NS&I it pays to complain
After a mistake (one of three) made by the person selling my 65+ Bond, I ended up with two Premium Bond accounts and a failure to reinvest winnings (on most) as requested. Getting the accounts merged involved applying by letter, the reason given being that they needed to be sure my signature matched the one on file. In…

Stocks and Shares ISA
Hi I'd like to invest about £14k in a S&S ISA before the deadline. I was thinking of an ISA where the investment house picks the stocks and shares to invest for you according to your desired level of risk. There seems to be quite a bit of choice out there and not being very clued into the market or investments I was hoping…

Anyone missing Lloyds or BoS interest this month?
Hi all, I don't seem to have received any interest on any of my Club Lloyds or Bank of Scotland Vantage accounts this month, though I believe it's usually paid the first working day? My qualifying DDs went out and my funding went in as normal. Anyone else missing interest? I'm hoping it's just a processing thing their end.…

Advice: Where's the best place to save £40,000?
I'm brand new to the site, and after reading the pages on here about savings accounts I feel even more confused! Basically, me and my partner are looking to save £40,000 (not for a property), we will be saving for 4 years. I would really appreciate opinions as to where is best to save this money, we are putting in around…

Where to spend/locate savings?
Hi, I've currently got a 20 year mortgage, roughly 65k left with one year at 1.89% which works out at £320pcm which I also overpay by £100 monthly. I also have a car loan, 11k at 3.5ish % working out at £260pcm with 40 or so payments left. I'm wondering, if the aim is to move home (upsize), which of these would it be best…

Size of emergency cash savings pot?
I've seen advice here and elsewhere of both: A) 3-6 months pay/income and: B) 3-6 months expenditure to have in cash savings in case of emergency before investing. I just wondered which of the above amounts the regular posters in here keep in cash and whether this is the same as you would advise new investors? Thanks

L&G Multi Index/Blackrock Consensus Query
At present I have a mix of Vanguard funds but I have seen a few threads recently that have talked of them being a little too UK based and suggesting that the L&G and Blackrock funds might be worth looking at to spread the investment. I can find information on Blackrock easily enough but I'm a bit unsure on the L&G. There…

When to declare or pay tax?
Dear all, Apologises in advance as I am quiet new to this so sorry it is a very basic question. When do you start paying tax on investments outside of your main income (Obviously I am not referring to ISA'S) or have to start declaring it? Any help much appreciated! Thanks

Investing and bank accounts in other countries
Hi all, I may be living in a few other countries in the next coming years, and one thing I have noticed is that in the UK, although generally interest rates in current accounts are poor now, they still seem to perform far, far better than other countries. For example, most US current (checking) accounts pay interest in the…

Salary sacrifice = less tax & more pension but where to invest
So I was thinking of saving £200pm into the Santander 5% 123 Saver Account. But then I read so many threads on this forum about pension contributions to decrease tax and I realised that I have been very wasteful. I am currently paying £750pm tax, £200 is in the 40% rate. Am I correct in saying that if I add an extra £500pm…

How best to help our young adult save for her future.
My wife and I would like to help our 24 year old build a nest egg for her future. As she’s just starting out financially, this isn’t something she’s able to do for herself yet so we’ve thought about contributing about £100 a month towards this goal. The question is, where best to put this modest sum? Our initial thought…

A bit more info on LISAs
The IFA whizzes here will already know this stuff. But I was surprised, it *seems* that some of the S & S LISAs automatically select a portfolio/funds to invest your deposits into. I thought that the investor always decided that like with a a SIPP. Some interesting (alarmist?) caveats about the possiblity for mis-selling,…

Is it worth opening an ISA now or changing to a higher rate bank account
I'm considering whether it is worth opening an ISA now to fill this years remaining allowance but the interest gained is low that it seems hardly worth it. Especially as my bank offers a two year fixed rate one which I assume means I won't be able to touch my cash in the interim at for the potential to gain a meager £200…

global bond - sell or transfer
Hi folks! I've been left a chunky sum in the form of HSBC global distribution units. HSBC offer me the choice of selling or transferring ownership... how do I make that decision?
