Have just deposited £15k cash in an ISA wrapper - best to drip feed into a fund?
I have just deposited £15k cash into a Charles Stanley Direct ISA before the end of this FY. I want to invest in the Vanguard LS 60 fund. I was thinking of adding £2500 a month to the fund over the next 6 months and then add another £15k over the last 6 months for the next FY. Does that sound like a good plan or could I…

Santander 123 of Halifax ISA
Hi, I have 20k in my Halifax ISA which will revert to 1% tomorrow. I am considering taking this out and placing in a Santander 123 account. I am a basic rate tax payer so the interest would be 2.4%. Is there any reason why this is not a good move? Seems a no brainer but just wanted to ask your advice? I wouldn't want to…

Stocks and shares ISA question
Hello With cash ISAs any money that was withdrawn could not be replaced if you had used your full allowance. For example, if I paid £15000 into a cash ISA during this tax year and then withdrew £1000 I couldn't then top it up again because I would have made deposits totalling £16000. Am I right in assuming that its the…

Sunday Times list of companies
Hello I think the Sunday Times used to produce a list each week of 200-odd companies by the market capitalisation and dividend yield. Does anyone know if they still do this and if not where that information can be obtained? Thanks

Labour plans for FTB ISAs
Details are still scant but apparently Labour are planning to build 125,000 houses in the course of the next parliament with money from the FTB ISAs, and by forcing banks to invest the FTB money into housing schemes. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2015-32176740 I can't immediately see how all the required money could…

Santander 123 rejection
With our ISA promo rate coming to an end my wife tried to open a Santander 123 account and was rejected. She didn't receive any emails from them until sending a 'tracking request' to them, and they came back today saying it had been rejected. I cannot think why, she has credit in her name, is employed etc etc. The only…

Newcastle drop rate again!
My morning post has just arrived and notification from Newcastle B S that they have dropped the rate again on Big Home Saver from 2.54% to 2% effective 1st May. Wow, they only just dropped it from 3% to 2.5%. This is getting seriously worrying now with options disappearing fast. Wish I had taken long term fixes at 3% but…

Increased spreads
Morning all - and happy Easter! I've been spending this morning re-balancing my ISA portfolio and have noticed that the spreads relating to some of my funds/stocks have gone through the roof - some of them are over 50%, which is just crazy. Does this happen every time that the ISA allowance gets reset or is it just…

Starting PhD; need to deposit savings for 2 years
Hi everyone, Nice to meet you all :) I'm a graduate student and will be starting a PhD this October. I've got full university funding for the first two years, but may have to support myself during the third year (my thesis "write-up" year) as the main funding bodies don't seem to pay out for that. Fortunately, I have about…

Help! CGT
Ok, I know I have been an idiot and made a mistake which may prove costly, so be gentle with me! For various good reasons, I have liquidated my portfolio but I mistakenly thought that there was still indexation to offset against CGT. I now find that I am facing somewhere in the region of a £13,000 gain, after purchase…

Diversifying Bonds in my Investment Portfolio
Hello, I've just funded my first S&S ISA before the end of the tax year, but the bonds are bugging me. Equiniti Charges- Selling shares
I have a number of BT shares that are held by Equiniti. These shares were purchased as part of a Share Incenive Program and are now out of their holding period, which means that I can sell them free of income tax and NI obligations. As far as I can see, the charges are pretty high for selling these from the Equiniti…
