If you want to receive any interest, yes you do, alongside meeting the other conditions for receiving interest.

Yes you will need 2 direct debits to be set up to gain the interest each month. I just moved over 3 from my main joint Santander to the sole one I opened. If you pick council tax, utilities or tv or phone provider dds then they should cover the bank fee each month so I have council tax, virgin media and eon coming from one and sky, three mobile and south west water from the other.

And the other condition of paying in £500 each month and not just a transfer from your other Santander account

    fj
  • Do you have to have a minimum of £3000 to get the 3% interest,or is it taken across the 2 accounts. Also do you have to pay £5 for each account.

They're standalone accounts so you have to met the same criteria as you do with your other account i.e. £5 monthly fee, minimum of two direct debits and at least £500 money coming in (can't be from your other 123 account). Interest is worked out the same way - tiered to what's in that account (£3k+ for the 3%).
