Understanding interest - help!
I struggle with maths at the best of times, but I just can't get my head around how Lloyds Bank calculate the following amount of interest on an account that pays 4% AER: "If you save £200 each month, you'll earn £52.21 gross (£41.77 net) interest after 12 months. The interest is calculated on the balance of the account…

Identifying good Funds.
I'm new to this investing lark, and I was wondering how to spot a "good" fund. I understand that fees come into it, but what else do people look for? I'm sure things like diversification of investments comes into it, but if you decide on a sector, how do you then decide which fund in that sector to go for?

Santander customer service
In 2010 we closed 2 accounts with Santander after 25 years with them / their predecessors. I'm due to shortly receive £80,000 from inheritance and have no idea what to do with it. It's a crazy amount of money. I feel a bit guilty receiving it. It's an ISA and I have no inkling of my return on the investment, as the paperwork gives a minimum maturity value(capital plus 0.5%) and…

I've had a very simple S&S ISA with Jupiter containing their Jupiter European fund for years now, contributing monthly. I've been very lazy with diversifying my investments thus far, i.e. done nothing at all, but now want to take more control. My plan was to start up a new DIY S&S ISA on a platform such as AJBell YouInvest…

Tax on saving accounts
Hi All, Next year I'm going to get over the threshold for the basic tax rate of 20% (I'm a permanent employee) . I'm wondering if I need to tell this to my bank and start paying 40% on my non-ISA savings account too (which would suck, but would suck less than being caught by HMRC). Thanks, Augusto

Tax has already been paid on the policy but even so would I need to declare this on my 2015/16 tax return and would top slicing come into effect seeing as I have been receiving bonuses over a 14 year…
