Lloyds Monthly Saver Tax Refund
Hi, My wife's Lloyds Monthly Saver account has just matured and, as she'd mistakenly forgotten to register this account for gross interest, she was only paid net. We've just been into the branch to mention this. In the past when this has happened with a Club Lloyds account, we've been asked whether we're owed any tax, and…

War Bonds
Hello, I recently inherited some war bonds and was advised to keep them as I would be earning 3.5% interest on them. I have been reading over the last few weeks that the government are looking to clear their war debt next February and I wondered how this might affect me? Would I just get the original amount invested back…

Beginner investing
Hello there, I have a small amount of savings that I want to invest and grow. However, as a young adult and investing novice, I have little knowledge in how to do this personally, therefore I am interested in discovering services that can do this on my behalf but have higher returns than the bank that current holds my…

Scottish Widows stakeholder pension
Hi, not sure if I am posting in the right place ... I have a stakeholder pension with Scottish Widows. I set it up about 8 years ago as it was reputed to be one of the best at the time. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts about it and whether it is still a good pension to have.

Regular investments into Vanguard Life Strategy 60%
I want to set up a regular investment of £200 per month for a long term investment (5 years+) into some type of tracker fund and my research so far has lead me to think that the Vanguard Life Strategy 60% looks like a good option for ease and diversity. I want something that I can pretty much set up and leave, with a low…

Am I overpaying in platform charges
Hi, I struggle to compare fees for the different platforms. When I first started investing I went with Charles Stanley Direct on the understanding that they were cheapest at the time. I was hoping that someone who has a better level of understanding would be able to critique my holding and let me know whether there is any…

Selling vested shares via US broker.... How to work out the CGT and other fees?
Hi Everyone I earned some shares with a company I previously worked for. The date when I can sell these shares is approaching but as they were a US company they are using a US broker. 3 year pensioner bonds affect on marginal tax rate.
I understand that the interest on the 3 year pensioner bonds will be paid at the end of the 3 years less tax at the standard 20%rate. For marginal tax rate calculations, will this interest be spread over the 3 years or will it all be assumed to be earned in the last year when it is paid?

How is it possible to make money with brokers fees?
I was just playing about with the Virtual Trader platform on the Bank of Scotland website. I bought some McDonalds shares and each trade has a 12.95 brokers fee. If there's a charge when I sell it too then to cover that 25.90 the price is going to have to go sky high. I don't get it.

Tax on Savings Interest - HMRC records
Hi As many on here I have recently become more of a savings tart than I ever used to be, constantly moving my savings around for the best interest rates.
