FTSE100 3 year Investment Plan
If the Final level is higher than the Initial Index Level I will get back initial deposit plus a return of 13% If the Final level is lower than the Initial Index Level I will get back deposit without any return Is this too much of a risk - I'm not too well up on how the FTSE 100 has been doing or likely to do in the next 3…

Getting money to Australia
Hi, My niece, who lives in Australia, inherited a sum of money from my parents in 2000. It was invested in a UK Investment bond via a financial advisor. She now wants to access the money but the investment bond company will only pay the proceeds into a UK bank account. They suggested I deposit it into a solicitors client…

BoS 2nd Vantage account
I'm trying to apply for a second Bank of Scotland Current Account (to then upgrade to Vantage) but it's saying on the website that they can't offer me a second one? Anybody had this problem? I already have 3 Lloyds Vantage filled up. Apart from the BoS Vantage account that shows up on the webpage, it shows a Halifax…

52 week money saving challenge alternative
I am recently trying to be on top of my budget and so far so good. I would love to try and save some money as well. I came across this 52 week money saving challenge. Every week you put money away you start at week 1 with £1 week 2- £2, week 3-£3 and so on till week 52 you end up with a total of £1378. I love the idea of…

Lloyds Vantage Interest Calc
Hi all, I had a Lloyds Vantage Account that was paying 4%, and despite being able to work out the interest for many other accounts I have to the penny, I could never fathom out theirs. Since October, the rate has dropped to 3% on £5000 only - so I thought that it would be a doddle - but I just can't make it add up. When I…

Advice needed: Best thing to do with £17k?
Hello everybody! Newbie here asking for some advice (bit cheeky for my first post, sorry!) :p I am in my mid 20s, living and working in London. I am paying extortionate amount in rent and dream of buying my own place within the next few years, although currently that is out of my reach in London. My grandfather passed away…

The Transition from Active to Passive
Hi All, I've been invested in the stock market in a number of guises over the past 5 years on behalf of myself and my partner. I’m by no means experienced and admittedly it's been a bit of a scatter gun approach across products & asset classes and not particularly focused on overall management costs or rigid asset…

What does annualised return mean?
It says on a fund that the "Funds annualised growth" is as follows: 1 year = 28.75% 3 years = 13.77% 5 years = 23.90% What does this actually mean? For example, the 3 years annualised growth of 13.77%, is that the same as compound interest of 13.77% per year for 3 years i.e. a total return of 47.25%? Any feedback…

RBS looking to switch
I have a couple of RBS accounts and I am now looking to switch, after recent events. The bank set me up with a mechanism that transfers any balance over a certain amount from my current account into a savings account. If the balance falls below this amount in the current account a transfer is made from the savings account…

Bonds Funds - Forward Contracts
Just been routing through some Bond Fund holdings and three I have looked at are showing sizeable GBP Forward contracts, between 18% - 48%. I appreciate what forward contracts are but if they are simply gambling on a positive shift from their contracted buy/sell price that seems a bit like putting it all on black or red.…

Tracking down my premium bonds
My parents bought me some premium bonds when I was a baby. I've never knowingly seen any of the paperwork, but I'm aware they did do it. And now I really want to have a look in case I've won something after all that time... Trouble is, they weren't very good at keeping hold of stuff (divorced now, could be in either…

Suggestions please for specific backup cash
Mindful of the recent RBS IT fiasco, I'd like to set up a savings account in a bank or building society to store some backup cash (probably £500-£1.5k). It's made me realise that I have almost every thing online and might find it difficult to access a reasonable amount of the folding stuff in an emergency. My requirements…

Declaring profits
Hi, Last year (financial year) I made a profit of approximately £8000 on the stock market. I haven't yet declared my earning to the tax man, which I know needs to be done by the end of this year. My tax rate is 20%, so I'm below the £10,000 threshold for tax. Should I still fill in a tax return for my earnings?

My husband and I are in our late 50s and have just retired. We are both now drawing our occupational pensions and are 20% taxpayers although I do not reach the tax threshold.
