Investing in land vs buying a small flat?
So everyone is always talking about buying property to rent out etc. but over the last few days I have been thinking of doing something a little different. A good size plot of Freehold land can be picked up from £5k to 60k in a 40mile radius from where I live depending on location. would it be worth using my savings to buy…

e-gold to rival bitcoin?
It was only a matter of time before the success of Bitcoin led to a new attempt to create a digital currency backed by gold. It seems as if that day has now arrived. While I fully think the ultimate monetary solution will be a decentralized payment protocol that merges Bitcoin-like technology with the ability to back it…

Help need some investment advice
I have inherited £200k and my bank advises me to use a 'Managed Investment Fund' to get the best return. I have a problem in that I realise I don't trust the bank. Is this good advice? I don't need the money for about 5 years and am happy to re-invest any income but I am concerned I could lose a lot, also in fees

Non resident savings
I'm a UK citizen currently living in Australia with every intention of returning home for retirement if not sooner. My property is rented out so I have some income from that. I still have my NatWest accounts but have noticed that the best rate of interest I can get is 1% and they won't let me open any new accounts owing to…

Pacific tycoon, another scam to avoid??
Hi there, I came across some money and am trying to find something to do with it other than leaving it in a savings account. I don't want to be an idiot and rush into to anything. I came across this website online, basically you buy and container, the loan it to this company who in turn, loan it out to ships etc etc and…

First Direct - Current Account Charges
I'm considering moving from Santander to a 1st First Current Account, although I don't like the idea of the banking charge (of course waived if paying in £1000+ a month) anyway, I see in the terms and conditions that if you hold another savings account (except namely the Regular Saver) they would waive the fee. Does this…

Transferring money from Germany to UK
My parents have offered to help us with a deposit for a house, potentially €100,000. The money is currently in a German bank account, so i was wondering if there was anything we needed to know in terms of tax, or is it purely just the conversion rate between the euros and pounds? Thanks

EMI investment and debt
Good evening, I am after a bit of advice. I have been given share options at work and I can invest now for the first time. I have to come up with £17k which is a 1/3rd of the value of 1.5% (emi rules) of the first share allocation. I spoke to the business Director though and he has said that they will loan me half of this…

Hi guys We've found ourselves in a strange situation where we have found out that my dad is trying to sell shares that he holds with my mum. I recently found letters to their broker advising that he and my mother had decided to sell up, and would like to sell. Is his request likely to be granted without my mother's…

C & G step bond accounts
Hi, I was wondering if anyone is having trouble servicing their C & G step bond accounts in Lloyds branches. I have tried changing nominated account in a Lloyds branch but the staff there do not want to help. They tell me to write to Andover which I have done but again no response has been received. I was wondering if…

Where to SIPP?
Hi, I currently have and S&S ISA account with H&L. I like their platform and massive choice of funds. However I will be SIPPing my pension when I leave my current employment. Get £4m of Bitcoins for free
Somewhere in a landfill site in South Wales, there sits an old computer hard drive with over £4m of Bitcoins stored on it. Its former owner mined 7,500 Bitcoins years ago and forgot about them as they were worth almost nothing. After throwing away the hard drive they were saved on, he later realised to his horror that they…

Any decent iPhone saving apps...
I do have internet banking, but love to see things visually. I am about to start a long term saving goal and would love an app to help track my progression, any ideas? (Ideally FREE of course...)
