Investing in New Fund Issues
I'm 1/2 way through reading Monkey with a Pin and to be honest it is becoming very apparent that using logic and reason to fund pick is a complete waste of time, and statistically I may as well fire arrows at the financial pages. With this in mind, could an alternative fund picking strategy work? So how about this? Small…

Multiple current accounts with the same bank
I currently have a 123 account with Santander and have the max £20k in there to attract the 3% interest rate. Can anybody tell me if it is permissible to have multiple 123 accounts, depositing a further 20k in each thus attracting the 3% again. I realise that I would need to set up 2 direct debits on each account and pay…

Premium Bonds
I have been recording all the winning ticket numbers on my and wifes investments since 2006. I have also recorded the new tickets issued as re-investments to my surprise NOT ONE of the prize tickets have ever won. Are we unlucky or does this highlight a failing in ERNIE.

Is the stock market over heating?
Now it has reached over 67000, I am wondering, as are others others, is it yet yet another meaningless bubble? The real economy is still going nowhere. I can see, with low interest rates, that people may choose to pile in but I am yet to be convinced that it has any sustainability. Apart from a bit in S and S isas, we have…

Notice Accounts
What's everyone's opinion on Notice Accounts, they seem to pay more interest than instant access accounts? Interest seems to be paid twice yearly, does this mean if you transfer your money out before 6 months is up you won't receive any interest whatsoever?

Lloyds Vantage advice please?
I've read some of the previous threads about this account, although almost all were dated 2010 (unless I didn't search properly) and I'm looking for some specific advice. It seems most people prefer to operate this solely as a savings account but I wondered whether it was feasible to operate it as a normal current account,…

Investing £240k - savings advice
Hi all I have £240k (the proceeds of the sale of my house). We're stepping off the property Ladder, doing a little travelling, and then renting for the foreseeable future. I'm not very au fait with savings but have gleaned that myself and my partner should (a) use our ISA allowance, and (b) ensure that we don't deposit…

Sharesave Maturity - What would you do?
Hi, I understand that none of you can predict the future (!) but I'm hoping some of you might have experience of sharesave maturity and could let me know your thoughts... I have a 3 year sharescheme due to mature on 1st June. We have the choice of selling the shares immediately, having the shares or taking the cash. As the…

The Eurozone & Mr Hollande
Been lots of posts over recent times referencing the next downturn and in particular the disaster that is the Euro zone. But oddly as the Euro zone has driven up the suicide rate, unemployment, child poverty, middle class begging, depression and crime the companies within it seem to go from strength to strength. Even a…

The woefullness of market-cap based trackers
Over on the H-L charging structure thread there was a bit of discussion about trackers based on things other than market cap. There was a FT/Moneyweek article which refers to some interesting research. Despite what MoneyWeek says the research isn't really that hard to read if you skip over the citations and the bits where…
