Taxation on Savings
Hi I work in Germany and pay taxes in country as I am employed and paid there. I have savings in the UK but am unsure whether these can be treated as Tax Free? I believe they are as I am not paying tax in the UK. I have a property in the UK and spend approx 35 calendar days in the UK. Advice? Thanks Chris

Peculiar Post Office Savings
My mother recently received two tax certificates for two accounts in the post, both for Year to 5 April 2013. The problem is, she can't seem to remember anything about these accounts, and after searching through her document history, she can't find anything relating to them either (no statements or any other letters). For…

ISA Safe if CO-OP need bailout?
I noticed today that there's talk of co-op bank needing a bailout, or doing a bail-in of it's junior bond holders, or other such similar comments. I have a co-op ISA ( the UK Sustainable Leaders fund )-- I was wondering how safe it is ? If the bank gets in trouble, is my ISA even affected ? If it is affected, then I guess…

Pay off mortgage v Savings and poss renting out!
Hi, I was hoping to glean some expert opinions here for my situation. I have been very fortunate and will soon inherit some money which I could afford to pay off my mortgage and leave about 20k as an emergency fund. If this was it I would simply pay it off and be very happy! However on the cards is potentially moving in…

Silver threads amongst the gold
Delighted to see that precious metal rampers who used to be themselves rampant, have decided to obey the wishes of MSE and have stopped their activities. Well done. ............... or could there be another reason?

Threadneedle American Smaller Cos.
Just a quick question, asking if anyone can work this out? I've discussed with CS but as execution only they weren't prepared to go into any detail and suggest I contact Threadneedle, which I will do if needed. http://www.trustnet.com/Factsheets/Factsheet.aspx?fundCode=ADASCG&univ=O&pagetype=overview CS have two of these…

Commodities data comparison
Hi all I'm quite new to it but I've just started to research commodities. I've been adding data to excel of several commodities (average price per month) and playing around with it, comparing commodities against each other and producing charts. I was wondering if theres a source where I can download multiple commodity data…

Church House Trust
I'm maxed on my ISA's and Santander 123 account but have some inheritance money that needs putting somewhere. I'm thinking of opening a Harvest Gold Account from Church House Trust. It pays 2.75% gross above £50,000 but you have to give 6 months notice for withdrawals which is not a problem. The account can only be…

Best way to invest savings, moving to US
Hi guys, I kindly ask for your independent advise. I've got enough saved up to get a 25% mortgage in London (it would be my first one) but I will be moving to the US in a couple of months. I don't have really ties to the UK, so I'm wondering A) Does it makes sense to move that money over to the States, and if yes what's…

How to invest for a new born?
A family member will give birth later this year, and I am toying with the idea of a present of a long term investment. My first thoughts were a lump sum of say a grand in a FTSE tracker, say Vanguard or HBSC, thinking that 16 or 18 years of stockmarket should be a reasonable start for uni fees or first car or flat. I would…

Newbie
Hi all, I've spent most of my time over at the Debt-free-wannabe board previously, with good reason (see sig). But finally, I've come through the other side and hopefully learnt from past mistakes. So the question I have now if you don't mind me asking is... Now that I've sorted everything out, I have a little money to…

What should be my focus now?
Hi, After struggling with cash for a few years I think I've turned a corner and should be concentrating on savings/investments. My question is, if you were me where would you focus your saving efforts? To help you out, here's a bit of background. 1) I'm a higher rate taxpayer earnings in the mid 40k mark. I "usually" get a…

What to do with £300 p/m
Hi, I was wondering what the best thing to do with a spare £300 per month is. I have been reading a fair bit about SS ISA's on here and other sites but I not reached a very good understanding of this subject and not sure if it is the right thing for me to do. I am looking at a long term investment. I'm 43, have a final…

Can a grandparent open up a bank account?
I have a 10 month old son and when I had him, my dad kept going on about giving him some money and opening up a bank account for him. I said no, we would be opening up a bank account for him and to just write my son a cheque. My dad has quite a bit of money that he's always wanting to "invest" to make himself as much money…

Small range of pension funds
I currently have an old pension with about £7k in it, and it's all currently in the Legal & General Global Equity 60:40 fund. I'm pretty happy to keep it there, and the charge is a tiny 0.18% per year. I'm 30 years from retirement. But would there be any reason to move any of the money to one of these alternative funds…
