ISA help for new year
Hi all, currently have one ISA account (with Natwest) which is maxed out for this year. I am looking to transfer this to a Santander account, (which is top of the list in the ISA article.) When do I do this, now or after April 5th?? Also once I have transferred last years account to a new one, am I right in thinking I…

nsi bonds or other?
I have used bonds to save my S/E tax payments...so I put in a bit here and there, get to a few grand, and it's virtually zeroed in Jan/Jul, before I start again. Never won before, but in the last year, I've maybe won £150ish in prizes, so still not great. My cash isa will be full with house deposit cash, and reg. saver…

I keep my eye on announcements on MSE and news bulletins, however I cannot feign intelligence in these matters (maths was never my strong point. Therefore I have come to you, the experts on MSE for some clarification. I have three individual accounts: 1 - First Direct web saver account: Interest is calculated daily and…

Effect on savings rates?
Banks have been told to raise an extra 25 billion of capital by the end of 2013 for potential bad debts. What do you think this means for our already low savings rates?

TER vs Fund Managers expenses
May be somebody can explain this to me. Taking one example of 'funds with lowest fees' from Mornigstar. I received an email from them telling me about gold rated funds with low fees. This got me interested. So, I checked HL for one of the funds they described 'Veritas Global Focus Retail'. Mornigstar -> Fees = 0.91%…

Vanguard expands range on Hargreaves Lansdown
This seems to have slipped somewhat under the radar, but the "rest" of Vanguard's Sterling-denominated index funds have now appeared on Hargreaves Lansdown. Previously the Irish-domiciled ones were not available. New article from today:…

Need a childrens saving acc locked in till 18
Hi - we need to open a savings account to pay in some funds awarded to our 5 year old by the court (after a car accident where he suffered from a whiplash injury). The court usually hold on to the money but said if we open an account that is locked and the money can't be withdrawn until the child is 18 they will give it to…

Partial Transfers Allowed?
Can't seem to find this answer anywhere. Currently have a cash Principality ISA. I want to transfer about half of this cash into a Stocks and Shares ISA (most likely Hargreaves and Lansdown) Both accept transfers. However, the transfer form from HL only seems to give you the option to transfer ALL the cash. Very annoying.…

boiler room scam
Recently contacted by "mergers and aquisition" specialist firm called Ardea Capital LP out of New York. They had my share info for a UK plc. Very professional website(at first glance`) and I made the error of sending proof of ownership by copy of certificates. They then sent offer(they claimed to be acting for a company…

Can money I've made be put in husband's name?
I've had a search about on this site and forum but haven't found the answer to this specific question - sorry if it's answered somewhere already. I recently sold a property that I co-owned with my brother. My brother and I acquired it in 2006, before my husband and I were married (2010). At the moment both my husband and I…

NS&I Maturity
Hi, Just got a letter today to say that my certificate is maturing at the end of April. I was just wondering whether to renew for another period. It says the new rate is index-linking plus 0.15%. This is I think way less than when I started it, but it may still be better than an ISA or savings account? I could do with some…

Santander 123, savings a/c only
I'm in a happy place with First Direct and so don't want to transfer my day-to-day banking and direct debits. I would like to get my hands on the 123's 3% rate on £3k-£20k though, as well as possibly their cash ISA. I've had a read about it here, so I know it's just a matter of leaving my 20k in the account, transferring…

ISA question
Want to do an ISA for 3 years. Have looked at the halifax one at 3.00%. My question is how does this work? For example. Do I have to invest everything in the first year, then it gets locked in for another two years meaning I can invest my subsequent ISa allowances elsewhere? OR do I have to invest my ISa allowance in that…

ISA or regular saver?
I'm new to saving, and don't really understand how interest is calculated or paid on different types of accounts. Because of this, I'm confused as to what type of account I should be putting my monthly savings into. All over the website, unsurprisingly, with the tax year about to end, the advice is to put money into an ISA…

Bonus ending - where to now?
The 3.15% interest on my Santander eSaver Issue 5 account ends on 18 June 2013 so I am looking for another instant access savings account. I do not have a 123 account as I would not be able to put enough money into it each month. Looking at interest rates on the web, they all seem to be under 2%. I cannot use a fixed…

Savings for children
Hi there Sorry if this has been asked before - I can't seem to find an answer. We have two children, aged 9 (almost) and 7, each with around one or two hundred pounds in savings. Their piggy banks are overflowing and need to find a sensible place for them to put the money. Any advice on where's best for them just as small…
