Vanguard expands range on Hargreaves Lansdown

This seems to have slipped somewhat under the radar, but the "rest" of Vanguard's Sterling-denominated index funds have now appeared on Hargreaves Lansdown. Previously the Irish-domiciled ones were not available.

New article from today: http://citywire.co.uk/wealth-manager/vanguard-to-expand-reach-with-low-cost-hargreaves-move/a669091

And indeed here's the emerging markets tracker!

Good news for passive investors, to have these additional options available. Note that the HL platform fee will apply!

The full list of 9 new funds is:

Emerging Markets Stock Index Fund
Global Small-Cap Index Fund
Japan Stock Index Fund
Pacific ex-Japan Stock Index Fund
SRI European Stock Fund
SRI Global Stock Fund
Global Bond Index Fund
U.K. Government Bond Index Fund
U.K. Investment Grade Bond Index Fund

I'm fairly new to HL platform. . . so a very basic question. . .

With HL funds that quote an “initial charge” of say 0.25%, does that apply to the initial opening deposit or is it on all deposits into a particular fund?

In relation to Vanguard range there is often an associated statement from HL that says something like
“Please note Vanguard levies a 0.25% dilution levy on all purchases, which becomes part of the property of the fund”.

Had always assumed it was on initial deposit but now I'm confused.

The 'dilution levy' is on all purchases. Fairly trivial in the scheme, especially as it's a one off. On £5k holding you'll pay twice that every year in platform fee.

For more than two trackers, you're better using BestInvest for an ISA. In a SIPP, HL are cheaper for four trackers and the same for five.

When you see those photos of Peter Hargreaves always smiling, it isn't because his charges are low ;)

It is taken each time you buy the fund. For each monthly direct debit of £100 I actually end up with £99.76 added to the total value of my VLS 80 investment.

Back to the Vanguard funds - I only want to buy direct (Sorry Peter Hargreaves) but as there is apparently minimum £100k in the fund does anyone know if you can bed and breakfast shares in the fund, or sell part, to use your CGT allowance?

presumably you can sell part, perhaps subject to minimum value retained.

simple B&B doesn't work for CGT, though, as the "30 day rule" will match the sale with the slightly *later* purchase, not the original 1. though perhaps it works if you switch beteen INC and ACC units?
