Is "Debt Free" all it's cracked up to be?
I am currently debt free. This is due entirely from an inheritance in December last year. I have an offset mortgage current account which was at tracker rate (3.65% on a 50% or less LTV?) whilst in "debt", and the moment I went into credit it earns me 0.10% interest. So I opened an ISA and dumped the max (£5640?) in there…

Funds or Trackers?
I've got my 6 months cash "rainy day" cash sorted out, with £10k sitting in a Santander 3.3% ISA. My pension is (semi) sorted. I have another £5K sitting in a HL S&S ISA, in M&G Strategic Corporate Bond. My 2012/13 ISA allowance is maxed out. I hold a chunk of shares in my employer (Sharesaves and SIP) and am reasonably…

Move from Cash ISA to S&S ISA for a better return?
Hi, I have £40K in cash ISAs between myself and my wife. We have no mortgage and have 6 months emergency funds in a savings account. In recognition that interest rates are so poor (and effectively eroding our capital due to inflation) I was wondering whether there are any thoughts on what S&S funds I could consider to…

Inflation.
I've been playing around with historical inflation data in Excel. 1948-present RPI index. I thought it might be valuable for some on the forum, rather than languishing on my hard drive. Worst and best cases for annual inflation in specific time periods. 5 years: Best 2.2%, Worst 16.5% 10 years: Best 2.4%, Worst 14.3% 20…

Safety Deposit Box
Hi there not sure if this is the right area to post but do any of you know of any banks that are taking on new safety deposit box customers or if any of the private firms are any good? I don't know what it is but the idea of a private safety deposit box firm is a little daunting (although why it should be more than a bank…

Is this a decent strategy?
I am a 54 and I wish to retire at 60 when my Civil Service finalsalary pension of around £17k (£51k Lump Sum) will be available. Savings/investment for daughter
My 18 year old daughter has just started work and is looking to save a small amount each month with a view to letting it build up over 10 years or so. Share dealing account for non-resident
Is there any legal reason why a UK non-resident (a British national, lived in UK for a long time but overseas for a few years now) cannot open a share-dealing account in the UK? The person concerned has a UK family address that can be used with the account for all correspondence. Most, if not all, application forms are…

Capital Gains Tax on Bed & ISA
I am completing a Bed and ISA transaction to shelter some shareholdings. Some of the shares that will be sold are in profit and some are in loss. When I complete the CGT section of my SA do I totally ignore the 'in profit' ones as the capital gain is well within the annual allowance and then claim the full loss on the…

Sharedealing where to begin with little amounts of money?
Hi, Is there a sharedealing equivalent of Skype, Ebay, Paypal and Facebook that works by an Android app? What I want is something straightforward, simple, and easy to access. Preferably with an Android app (if not mobile compatible site), which lets me invest little amounts of cash here and there. £100 to start with, £20…

When I say small it will probably work out about £150 between six kids. I am looking for something that I know dad will want them to keep or be of…
