Child savings account - non UK resident

My brother has moved to New Zealand with his family. Both of his children have Smart accounts with Nationwide, do these need to be closed?

It is certainly possible for adults to retain their UK bank accounts and for CTF to remain in place if the child moves abroad so there would seem to be no reason why not, but only Nationwide can give the definitive answer.

That said, the interest rates on these accounts is very poor - why do the parents wish to leave the accounts in place?
