"See your savings blossom"
When I logged off from Halifax I had this on the signed off page, an advert re Halifax's ISA Saver Fixed. 2.3% fixed for 2 years. It then promotes it with the statement "See your savings blossom with 2.30% tax free/AER for 2 years." How on earth could any one's savings be said to be able to "blossom" when I believe the…

brokers views
Are there some brokers views that you trust more than others, or that are more likely to move markets? Also, how can they have such different views when they are presumably all talking to the company and when often there is masses of info in the public domain for a company anyway? For example I have Scottish and Southern…

Derbyshire BS netsaver 3 account
Quick question on this account. Need to withdraw the full amount and close the account but I note that the interest is annual, paid in June 2013. What happens upon closure? I assume pro rata interest is subsequently applied to the account?

Using Dad's savings to clear buy-to-let mortgage
Hi. I would appreciate any feedback to help make a decision. My elderly father has quite a lot of money in various savings accounts which I have set up for him over the last few years. These pay around 3% including bonuses which are now coming to an end. As we all know interest rates are very low and I am struggling to…

How to divide up savings and investments, short term?
I want to emigrate back to my home country (USA) asap, and with the money I can save, the soonest it will be is about 6 years if I count inflation a bit. Child ISA

While he is a British Citizen, he was born outside the country and we were not tax resident here when he was born.... I am now since mid 2011. Because of that he was not entitled to the Trust Fund…

Santander 123 current account
Apologises if I'm treading old ground, but anyone had any issues or any benefit from using a 123 account. I ask as an existing Abbey/S customer, 1 of the few that have had no issues with them in over 40 years banking. It's just that there are several accounts/bonds/isas that are only available to 123 account holders? They…

Unlisted Shares - Dyson
Hi, Some time ago (2006) I made the rather dubious decision to open a share dealing mini ISA. Part of the portfolio that I chose included a number of shares in Dyson, which subsequently became de-listed from the LSE. The shares got moved to my Nominee account. My question is, how do I find out what they are worth and how…

Invest £70000?
I have £70000 in a Santander Esaver, I currently earn £114 a month interest. I currently rent, this money will be a deposit on a house or flat. Investment or savings has to be no risk and easy access. Is this the best thing to do with £70000.

Money to invest for 12-18 months
Hello group, we recently sold our house and moved into rented accommodation, we are taking time out hoping to accrue enough money to fund a self build, anyhow the move has left us with a surplus 86 thousand pounds. The Halifax got me in yesterday and gave me a multitude of options, all bewildering. I settled for a safe bet…

Halifax personal investment plan - tax
My grandfather has a Halifax PIP valued at £149,500which he wants to cash in and distribute between the grandchildren. We are wondering what the income tax implications would be for him if he does this. He has an income from a private pension of around £10,000per annum plus his state pension. Any advice would be welcome.
