Reducing Interest rates without notification.
I opened a savings account - Direct Bonus Account 3 - with West Bromwich Building Society(WBBS) in January 2012. The interest rate was(I quote) '3.13% Gross p.a. AER variable(which includes a fixed 1.38% Gross p.a. until 28 Feb 2013)' I have just had a letter reminding me that the bonus finishes at the end of this month.…

Risk 'free' investment
I want to invest a few k in a 'risk free' investment that may offer a better return than the amount I can get on cash savings. By risk free I mean the value of my investment will not actually decrease. i.e.if I invest 5k it will not go below 5k........yes I know that if in a year it is only worth 5k I have in effect 'lost'…

Inflation high but Interest rates low?
It seems to me that the BOE want to keep interest rates low at any cost! Nothing is coming to the rescue for savers. the Bank said it would ‘look through’ – or ignore – the spike in inflation in a clear signal that it is in no rush to raise interest rates in an effort to curb soaring prices.

Bank of Baroda
Is anyone else had issues with trying to set up an savings account with these people. Made an application to open a 1yr fixed bond @ 2.3% about a fortnight ago and haven't heard anything from them. This bond is now being advertised at 2.1% so I'm wondering if they've just had a massive amount of applicants for their 2.3%…

Aberdeen EM
Aberdeen Asset Management insists a 2% charge is needed to prevent popular funds being swamped with new money. Aberdeen are about to introduce a 2% entry fee to their EM fund. They say it is to limit incoming funds and that the 2% will be added to the fund value and not the Aberdeen bank faults. Two things strike me as…

Advice please - Childs saver required
Hi, We've had a letter from Halifax saying that the interest has stopped being paid on our sons account as it was only for 12 months when we took it out. We've now transferred the sum into his other savers account (low interest but no regular savings required). What would be the best thing to do with this money now? We…

F&C Childrens Investment Plans - New Charges
Got home today and found letter from F&C advising that their children's investment plan charges are changing so that they now charge an annual fee of £40 per account. I need to review what I keep long term; if all such accounts bring in charges then it would make sense to consolidate into a single place rather than paying…

Tax refund on child account
We have Section 975 certificate for my daughter's Nationwide fixed rate bond that shows she paid tax on the interest despite us completing the necessary forms (twice!) with Nationwide to prevent this happening. What is the easiest way to claim back the tax paid? My wife is listed as a Joint Investor but it is my daughter…

NS&I Index Linked Savings. What to do on maturity.
3 years ago I invested £15000 into NS&I index -linked savings. It will mature on 5th March at £17,458.08. I believe the initial rate was RPI+1%. I am now being offered a further 3 years, but at the rate of RPI+0.25%. At least it is guaranteed above inflation so I'm tempted to take it. Does anyone have any advice?

Question re: Funding for Lending ...
This question may be simplistic but I would like to ask it: Does anyone know HOW LONG the so-called 'Funding for Lending' programme goes on for, e.g., what is its term? It seems to me it has almost entirely destroyed the saver's market. Does the government really want to push people to greater risk? I would have…
