Need some advice on bank share baskets...
Hello, In June I invested 30,000 into a 'Cautious' investment portfolio with HSBC. They advised me that this would be my best option as a 'saver' because it would give me a good return, and would be better than a normal savings account which are at such low-interest rates right now. Frustratingly, the amount has obviously…

Mis-sold investment compensation advice
In April 2010 I invested £100,000 with a supposedly highly regarded investment company. However the performance has never achieved the claims that were made and I have found their administration to be very poor. In July of this year I complained about the advice given, conduct of the sales staff and my dissatisfaction with…

% Gross v % AER
The Northern Rock pay 2.75% Gross which obviously equates to an AER of 2.75% on interest paid annually, they 2.72% Gross on interest paid monthly which equates to just the same AER of 2.75% My question is why do they have the two interest paying options as the AERs are the same?

Shorting European Debt
There was bloke on Bloomburg yesterday who is shorting European Debt. Can anyone offer advice on our savings strategy?
Hello We have a few savings accounts with our bank. I’m looking to close these accounts and open new accounts for two reasons. The first is that we can probably find better rates somewhere else. The second reason is that I’d rather separate our savings accounts from our main banking accounts as I find it’s far too easy to…

PO Index Linked Offers - Confused!
Back in July I took out a post office Index Linked Bond that paid RPI plus 0.5%. I'm sure at the time there was a get out that if after I had held the bond for over one year then I could get all the money plus interest back, minus 0.25%. Looking at the new post office linked offers (the 3 year, and the 5 year), it seems…

MSE Top Savings account
MSE emailed comments on Nationwide My Save warns that on closure interest drops to 0.1% in that final month 'unless you have yet to use your penalty free withdrawal'. That is incorrect; buried in their T&C's they say closure incurs that loss of interest regardless of the number of withdrawals. Martin's following advice as…
