IFA charges
hi, new to this side of the forum and totally ignorant about money. i have been lucky enough to come into a large (to me) sum and feel i need to do more with it than leave it in a savings account. i have seen an IFA and he has said he will charge me 1% of the sum to be invested (£50K) and thereafter, '...each fund manager…

Governor Savings Platform
I just came across this site after looking through the top cash ISA's thread. Apparently it's the UK's first 'savings platform,' which appears to mean they just open accounts on your behalf, and they earn income of the bank you deposit into (like commission for the sale I guess...) Has anyone heard anything good/bad about…

National Counties - worth keeping?
I have a National Counties inflation linked isa coming to maturity and they are only offering a poor rate instant isa or a 3 year fixed isa at 3.7% which is OK but longer than I wanted. Back when it was worth keeping building societies accounts in hopes of a windfall National Counties was one of the recommended ones. So is…

I was looking at the Yorkshire Bank fixed rate isa at 3.3% or the Northern rock variable isa at 3.05%. I think i am in aposition where i…

Could somebody help me please...
Me & my other half have to save £30k over 10 years. We are currently saving £300 a month into a high interest (well high ish!) account but that percentage is only for 1 yr, it then reverts back to a lower interest account. What do we do with it then? Is there a high interest long saving account that we could transfer it…

ISA Transfer
Hi If I transfer my ISA which has last years allowance and some of this years allowance can I contribute to the new ISA to use up the rest of this years allowance? Do I need to do anything other than fill in the transfer form and then just add the new money to the account monthly? Thanks

Halifax fixed rate web saver
In June my father in law gave both my kids some money from a savings account he had and wanted my wife and I to get a good interest rate so the money could be used in the future for their education. We put the money into the Halifax fixed rate websaver. Fast forward to this month and my wife's job is at risk and my son…

ISAs and mainting highest interest rate
Hi all, I've been using a savings account that came with my current account for a while now but the interest rate is appaling and I'd like to open my first ISA. I think I understand the basics of ISAs but I'm confused about one aspect and that is what happens to interest rates after the first year. I see that most ISAs…

How should I save? First lump sum then regularly after that..
Hi, so I'm a recent graduate just started work, and I want to start saving money. I get my first paycheque next week, which, thankfully is large enough to clear my nearly maxed out student overdraft limit .. and then some! Although, I'm still going to have a 2k overdraft for the next year. So my thought is that this is an…

I should know the answer to this but....
Is there an annual limit to the amount of cash that a husband and wife can transfer to each other is a financial year? E.g. if one has an ISA and comes into some cash, can he/she give that to their spouse to put into the spouse's ISA? I had thought that a husband and wife could basically do what they wanted with their…

managed forex trading account 30% ?
Someone messaged me on here offering a managed forex trading account, and the interest for past 10 years looks too good to be true. Lowest year was 10%, highest 42% or something like that. Anyone ever tried this? Is it a scam?

Skipton Monitored Informed Investing (MII)

I have about 20k that I'd like to invest in stocks and shares that I can transfer from my cash Isa and Skipton have advised me that MII could be an idea for me. The money will not be needed in the future. Has anyone had any dealings with this. We have always used Skipton and…

Vantage now looking very poor.. alternatives?
Lloyds Vantage rate now looks very poor compared to some other accounts. I still like Lloyds, though the cutting of that rate and the lowering of the £7k limit to £5k has been dissapointing. I see alifax do ~3%+ net for 2-3+ years, and other accounts are giving better returns. Anybody got a strong recommendation?

Can the £1.7 trillion euro deal work?
Apparently there is a £1.7 trillion deal now being hatched to save the eurozone. The idea being brokered by the G20 group of nations involves the bailing out those European banks most at risk from their massive lendings to the weakest economies. Some of the money in the new rescue package would come from the European…

Halifax Lottery Savings?
I would value Martins opinion on the recent announcement from Halifax that it is launching a Lottery Style Savings Account. Apparently, they require a minimum investment of £5000 in ANY of their savings a/c’s to qualify for the monthly draw, and remarkably, unlike Premium Bonds, you will also continue to earn interest on…

conscious-investing, sounds to good (or expensive) to be true?
Hello, I was reading an interesting article called " The Nine Investing Secrets of Warren Buffett" which is quite old but in there there was a reference to this software "conscious-investing" that helps you choose stocks and so on, it is really expensive and only for the states, canada and Australia but seems to be a real…
