Overseas Investments
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on overseas investments. We are UK nationals on expat status overseas and have been approached by several brokers selling a "insurance" with friends provident. They are selling it as a savings style investment plan but as we are currently overseas and the plan is…

Some help needed please - Halifax Savings & Investments - could I be doing better?
Hi gents/ladies, I'm new to this site - I thinks it's great that there are users out there helping one another - well done! There's so much information here and after flicking through 100's of pages, I thought I'd post a question to get some opinions. I had been saving with the Halifax into a normal book style savings…

Ideas for £5000 to £10000 monthly savings
I might have got a contract which will give me a "spare" £5k to £10k a month and I'm looking for a home for it. I won't have much time for active management on my part except for running a few CFDs but I'd like to get as much of a return as possible. I see some 1 year fixed rates around 3.25% but that is before tax. I can…

This does my head in!
My OH thinks all FA's are liars and cheats. I can see why as we have had some bad advice. The problem is that we have quite a bit saved. I am finding it very hard working out where to keep the money without risk and with a good return. My OH never helps, just says he does not understand it all. I have to do the hard task…

over £50,000 limit!
OMG, I have just realised that I have money in Halifax and money in BM. Looking at the chart it seems they are linked. Would I lose my money if just one of these banks went bust or would it need to be both?

Have i made a mistake with my CTF?
hi guys, i posted recently in the main Top child Trust fund thread, but unfortunately i got no response, so i went ahead and put the CTF in "self trade" to play about with shares, but now i realised that they charge not only £12.50 per deal, but also £40 per year! Have i made a big mistake? Is there a better company where…

CGT and Gold Bullion
Is the increase in CGT going to affect someone who buys bullion (from bullionvault.com)? Or is this not affected? edit - Let me be clearer - is any profit I make from the rising price of gold going to be subject to GCT, or is there an allowance? And is that allowance going to be carried over in the next budget (or do I…

Best place to put my savings each month?
First let me qualify this post by saying I've read the saving section but as I've never had to deal with banks before (excluding student banking) a lot of it I don't understand:o. I'm in my first job since leaving uni so now I have disposable income I've been putting away £500-700 each month - unfortunately instead of…

Equiniti - unreasonable charges
I am trying to get share certificates for my Talk Talk and Carphone warehouse shares which were issued on March 24th 2010 to all old Carphone Warehouse shareholders. Equiniti sent the certificates to the wrong address (an old address - despite me having notified Equiniti's predecessor Lloyds TSB registrars of my new…

National Savings Index-linked Certificates are misrepresented by Martin
The Banking/Savings tab contains an article about the National Savings Index-linked Certificates which is misleading, I think. You don't get the current RPI + 1%. You get the difference between the RPI at investment and on anniversary. So the quoted figure of 6.3% is nonsense. It fooled me, too! Seth

ISA and PEP and CGT
Can anyone help please? I am looking at quite an nice profit this year from some AIM shares I have been buying over the last 3 years (so far £20k but maybe later in the year upwards of £35k). the pennies soon add up :)
Since about Feb I've been popping odd change into a money box & for lack of anything more interesting to do, I just counted it! Just over £25 in the "small change" moneybox (anything from 1p to 50p) & £74 in my "pound pot" (£1 coins, £2 coins & 2x£5notes in there too!!!) It just goes to shows that tiny amounts soon mount…

How Secure are my savings
I have a morgage of £110,000 and savings of £150,000 with the same bank. Am i correct in saying if the bank went bust my savings would be fully protected ie my £110,000 debt would be cleared using my savings and the £50,000 bank protection scheme would cover the remaining £40,000 savings
