Overpay the mortgage or invest in Savings?
Hopefully a simple question here. I've got a bit of money to stash away. I'm free of debts other than the mortgage. We've overpaid the mortgage a bit already and have our ISAs sorted. However, I like to have a bit of money in a direct access saving account "just in case" With the interest rates being as stupidly low as…

FirstSave rate drop Q?
We pulled our savings from A&L e-saver and opened a FirstSave fixed term on 5 Feb @ 4.25%. Everything went smooth and the money is due to be transferred on 16 Feb by DD. The rate dropped on Feb 6 to 3.6%, will we still get it at the 4.25 rate as the money has not yet gone into the account?

Advice for my dad please
My father inherited some money recently from my Mum, and it is due to come out of a pensioners guaranteed income bond next month. He has asked me where he should put it next. Ideally he wants to invest around £5k in instant access and £20k in something more long term. The savings article on this site will help me find the…

Post Office Bond warning
If you’re one of the tens of thousands who invested in the Post Office 7% 12-month Growth Bond last summer you should check on the opening date of your investment in case you lose interest on the period until your account was set up. Post Office says it will pay interest from the date an investment was cleared, but can we…

£100 for just opening the account? Where is the catch?
Some banks offer £100 for switching to them. http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/current-accounts/premier-100-switching.aspx?ct=p1rfshomepageswitching The requirement is to put £500 every month. This is very easy - with direct debit there - and back! So, one can open several accounts in several banks offering cash for…

Gold - Who Thinks It Will Not Go Higher
The gold price seems to be going down recently (last week). Now about £600/oz. Is there anyone whom thinks it cannot do anything but go up over the next 12 months? I know nothing about gold apart from seeing loads of tips suggesting it will go up, mostly citing the worst is yet to come with fiat currencies. Rgds Mark

Investing in Cattles
On recent form, I'm considering adding some shares in Cattles (CTT) to my portfolio. I'm pretty new to the investment scene and so just wondered if anyone could offer some insight into their value. I know they've fallen from the best part of £3 over the past 12 months but do we think these are a good long-term buy?

Fixed Interest-With an eye towards future ..
I know this is all speculative ... but then, really, what isn't? ... We all ultimately have to die ... and no one currently breathing knows exactly when that final moment will come. I am one of those (not as young as I used to be) who live off the interest from my savings. I was also one of that band of brothers (and I…

Halifax 10% Regular Saver Questions
Hi all, I apologise this is probably a couple of silly questions. I have the 10% regular saver from the Halifax and mine ends on the 11th June. So as I calculate it my last payment will be going in on the 1st June. SO can I still leave my 1st July payment as the same to start of a new regular saver should I want to? Also…

£300,000 in a business account - what to do with it???
What would you do if you had £300,000 in a business account for a ltd company and were earning a cr*p amount of interest on it, like half a %. Taking the money out of the company and into a personal account where interest would be higher, or into property which may or may not recover, would result in a 40% tax bill, 20%…

savings interest plummeting--collectively what can we do about it???
I like many have had their interest on their savings cut time and time again and me personally am earning around a quarter of what I was returning 12 months ago. I have a 3 yr old daughter and so since her arrival I went from full time work to part time to spend quality time with her, which I feel has been a benifit to the…

KE/ING Gross interest
The OH's old KE account was registered to receive gross interest. She's just logged on to ING & noticed that the fixed term account will have 20% tax taken off at maturity. She'll no doubt get this sorted, but thought I'd give you all a heads up on it. I'd be interested to see what ING says for other ex KE savers.

Shares / stocks research
Hi, I am just wondering when you use Google, or any search engine, to look for information about specific shares/stocks... What are the keywords you use?
