Anyone heard of or used a fairfax card?

Hi people,

I will soon be travelling to Australia to work for 6 month and was looking to get an account sorted out before I leave that I can use when im over there. Im currently with lloyds tsb but they charge roughly £2 per transaction overseas! I tried to open a nationwide accound as they dont charge for overseas transactions but I was declined! I came across a debit style card called a fairfax card which you load money onto but I was just wondering if anyone has used these before? Also when it asked you to apply for the card it asks if you want to purchase euros or us dollars(not sure which to go for). I read the T+A and it says you can use it anywhere in the world and it will convert the currency for you with no charge?

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance
Richard

  • Hi

I have a fairfx card which I use in France, and am very pleased with it.

Good exchange rate, very reasonable ATM charges and the customer service is excellent.

Can't help regarding how they work in currencies other than EUR/USD, but if you email them you'll get a prompt response.

  • I have a fairfx card and I love it! The exchange rate is the best you can get, beats post office, banks by a good amount. It also has no fee for transactions in any country apart from a euro 1.50 if you withdraw cash from a cash point.

You can also use it with other currencies.

I live in the UK but travel quite often to Norway. Norway does not use Euros, but they use Norwegian Kroner. I load money on my Euro card, paying with my direct debit card in british pounds at a very good rate. I then use my euro card in norway without problems.

Believe it or not, but i get more kroner per pound when exhcanging twice using fairfx (from pounds to euro and then from euro to kroner) than I would exhcaning once with the post office or other uk bank...

Get one now if you travel a lot!! Highly recomended!
  • This reply may be too late for you but I e-mailed the company before going to Australia last year. I had a very prompt reply stating that the card would not be suitable as it's only available in American dollars and euros.
