Old ISA- can I put into it if I have already used my allowance for 2008?
Hi Guys This might be a silly question, I have a really old ISA with HSBC from 10 years ago which I never really used, it has 12 quid in it! I have already used my allowance for tax free savings this year with an e ISA from HSBC- can I still put money into my old ISA to get tax free savings or will it not count because I…

17k Savings, Where's the best place to stick it?
Hey I am a Student and I have 17k savings. I have little income at the moment, so really am living off my interest from my savings and my little part time jobs. With the interest rates being cut AGAIN, my interest is getting less and less each month, So I really want to make sure that my money is in the best place…

Egg Savings Account - Any good?
Haven't seen this mentioned by ML but the interest rate for the first year seems pretty good (4.5% variable) dropping to 3.25% after the first year. None of the weird interest stipulations like the AA account...which is only slightly better interest. Is there a reason why Egg is not mentioned?

Saving for my son
Hi, I have a lump sum of around £1500 that i want to invest/save for my son who is 10, ideally I want to put this aside and just leave it for 6-8 years to grow. At the moment it is in a Nationwides kiddies account with instant acess but not sure if this is best as when he gets older and has acess to it, I am pretty sure he…

shocking now, but will it all work out alright
I'm saving up for a deposit which I imagine many of us are. Although we have to put up with poor interest rates now, do you think we will get good 3 - 4% mortgage deal when our time comes?

Birmingham Midshires Lost Forms and Intercepted Post!!
I thought this was worth a mention to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. I have read on here that many people who applied for Birmingham Midshires Fixed Rate Bonds online never received their forms and had to request duplicates. This also happened to me too in the last few weeks, on two separate occasions.…

leap year interest calculation
(Sorry if this is old hat. Did a search and didn't find it...) I've just received payment of a matured bond. Checking the interest paid*, I discovered that although it works out perfectly for earlier and later periods, it seemed a little short for the year Oct 1st 2007 to Oct 1st 2008. On further investigation, it emerged…

Regular saver ISA, mortgage overpay or something else?
With the recent cuts, my tracker mortgage is thankfully getting cheaper, up to now I’ve been increasing overpayments so that my monthly payments remain the same. This is to reduce the term of the repayment portion and cut back on some of the capital on the interest only portion. However with such a big difference in saving…

Rubbish Interest rates- shall I leave my ISA in Egg 6.3% fixed until March??
Sorry if this has been asked before- I’ve got my £12k ISA back from FSCS now, but still awaiting my isa certificate. Have put it all in my Egg 6.3% fixed account in the meantime. I did open a Halifax fixed rate ISA account (5.5%) but goodness knows when I’ll get the certificate to let me transfer the money. If not in time…

Less money to spend not more.
The government says we have more money to spend by lowering interest rate. I do not have a mortgage and now through the savings rates coming down, I have £2000 less money to spend this year than last. So I won't be spending more: I will be spending less! Programs like Location, Location, Location that encourages people to…

Cash to be dropped from helicopters?
"The Bank of England is working on radical plans to inject cash directly into the economy - the nuclear option to be used only when interest rates approach zero. In what would be a major departure for British monetary policy, the Bank is considering pressing the button on printing presses by engaging in a so-called policy…

Zero rate, How would it work?
I am quite confused by all the talk that we may in the near future have a Zero BOE rate, how on earth would that work? Can anyone shed any light on what might happen, for example is it possible that people would be able to borrow money from a bank and pay no interest at all? Surely if the rate was Zero or even just above…

Advanzia Bank. 6% no fees or penalties, held in euros
From another thread it was pointed out by gunnaknow that Advanzia Bank are offering 6% interest with no fees or penalties and the money is held in euros. They are covered by the AGDL scheme and this suggests this may give a guarantee of 100,000 euros from 01-01-2009.…
