Some good news for Landsbanki Guernsey depositors
The Administrators have been instructed to make an interim refund payment to depositors at £0.30 in the pound. Good? Well it does refer to '...significant residual funds' after the interim repayment. http://www.deloitte.com/dtt/article/0%2C1002%2Ccid%25253D229235%2C00.html

With many savers going Fixed rate will it cost Building Societies!
With many of us jumping into Fixed rates as quick as we can and at the highest possible rate not put a strain on Building society finances? How does it work? Many of us have fixed over the last few weeks at rates above 5% which they are committed to pay over the next year or years and the BOE rate plummeting very quickly…

Will the pound collapse? Should we save in EUR/USD?
Whilst this is a global recession, it seems to me the government's policies to throw tax payers money at literally everything, and build debt to incredible levels indicates the pound is likely to suffer badly (even compared to where it is now). Even worse is the risk the government might start printing money, causing even…

When banks actually charge you interest on savings...could happen
I read Roger Bootle's book that was published years ago. He claimed the UK economy was booming purely on cheap credit and a run away housing market. It would all crash v badly and we would enter a period of deflation. (really?) As BoE interest rates reach 0%, high street banks would have to charge you interest for looking…

Best account to save for a deposit in please?
Hi all, I'm coming out of lurkerdom to tap the collective wisdom of this board. OH and I are saving for a deposit, slowly but surely. We can only save about £100 a month as we don't earn much, but there may be extra lump sums to add from time to time. What would be our best idea for an account to put this in? TIA.

Lower Tax on Savings
As the Government has lowered VAT to kickstart the economy, why not lower the tax on savings interest so that, across the board, it is 10% instead of 20%. Is that too simple? Surely this would partly mitigate the lower interest rates.
