Best savings account?
Hi, Pondering the best savings account to setup in the current climate, I have an egg, cahoot, nationwide and ICICI one and I have an ISA so can't do that. Was looking at the Sainsburys & Tesco accounts. Happy with Internet only, would want access with notice. Any thoughts?

where to put £5,000 for 3 months
Hello saving experts I have £5,000 to put somewhere but only until mid March 09 when I'll buy a car with it. I was going to put it in premium bonds but now I'll only be eligible for the Feb&March draws since it takes a month to be eligible:( So realistically(optimistically:D?) that would make me £100 from 2x£50 'wins' So…

Mandelson - The Times
see: http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/banking_and_finance/article5295879.ece Easy to see where Mr Mandelson's priorities lie! I guess he'll be happy when he forces banks to lower their lending and hence savings rates, and then wonders why they (the banks) are having problems raising capital…

A great big stash of gold bars?
Ok, let's say financial armegeddon is heading our way by teatime on 3rd April 2009 (an arbitary date)....best to have some gold then. The thing is...I trust nobody in this world...nobody. Therefore, I'd want gold bars. The thing is ...how do you get your hands on the physical gold without the obvious risk that goes with…

Capita Tracing Solutions - share payment due
A letter has turned up out of the blue, and it seems I'm owed a small amount of money :) It's from Capita Tracing Solutions about a tiny number of shares (50 only) which I held some years ago. The letter says: We are writing to you in connection with an unclaimed cash amount in your name. According to our records you have…

Blah's "I don't like banks" portfolio
Aim: Invest in companies purely for dividend yield that exceeds the return available on high street savings accounts (this threshold nominally set at 4%). Strategy: A mixture of short and long term investments driven by the ex-div date and the price performance of the share. Growth is gratefully received but not expected,…

Hopefully I may be able to help others as well in the future. I’m posting this in savings and pensions as it relates to both,…

Anyone out there got a crystal ball? FTSE?
I have been invited to 'invest' in a 12 month bond based on the FTSE & the blurb indicates that this is at an all time low. What do you think? How much further do you think it could fall in 12 months? My instinct is to avoid this like the plague but am new to investing so any comments welcome. Thank you in anticipation of…
