Premium bonds - when in month to invest?
If I'm going to put some money into premium bonds, want to check timing on investment. My understanding is that they have to be held for a 'full calendar month' before they are entered into the draw. I believe the draw is on the first of every month. Therefore I assume that money should be put in as close to end of month…

Investing £250,000
I'm selling-up and moving to rented accomodation for a year or so. After selling my home, I'll have £250,000 and want to invest it safely but with reasonable access as I hope to purchase a property again in about a year's time. What is the best option for maximum return? Thank you... Tonome

Newbie Question: Do saving accounts take into account inflation rate?
Hi Guys, First post here and I have a nagging question. Say you register a savings account at an annual rate of 5% and national inflation is running at 3%, does that mean your gain is really 2% instead of 5% or does the bank take into 'account' the rate of inflation and the 5% is the actual net rate??? Sorry for the…

To be a lazy investor...
I like the idea of 'funds' as these appear to be somewhere you put your money and someone else manages it (ie moves it in and out of various stocks and shares etc).Am I right? In that case, If I have 3K to invest for 3 years, and I want a higher return than just having it sat in a savings account, and once I've invested it…

Hi, I need to find a reliable figure for the long term average annual return from savings (after tax) - I'm sure that the investment gurus on this board will have this figure to hand as it's often used for risk/return analyses for different types of investments. Any references? cheers Reestit Mutton

Commodities v Equities split
Commodity prices have been booming for the last few years and all the signs are that they will boom for at least another 10 because of massive increased demand for gold, steel, oil, food etc from the developing countries and the fact the world population is rocketing - ref "the commodities supercycle".
