Starting investing...
I am looking to start investing in the stock market with small amounts, in order to get a feel for it. As I'm very inexperienced, I'd like to start with something simple - maybe an index tracker (I've heard that Fidelity only charge 0.1% in fees) or something. What would people suggest? As I said, its more about getting a…

Investment Confusion
Im not going to mention sums as it seems recently any mention of monetary value puts people of replying. So I have a good holding in my current account and saving account that I can dip into as I require. Now I need something to do with my bukshee cash. I am willing to take a longer term view and invest for over 5 years.…

0% interest credit invested at 10%+
I have been reading with interest about the 0% interest rates offered on some credit cards in the UK. Secured term deposits/debentures with finance companies in NZ reach up to 12%pa. I was wondering what members think about the practicalities and sense of using "free" funds (at 0%pa interest) being invested overseas for a…

£13k or 1000 shares?
will soon have 1000 (ok, 1031) shares coming to me from a work sharesave scheme, and at present the share price is £13.50 give or take. What sort of investment options are there should i cash them in? 6 yrs ago they shot up to £24 amid rumours of a merger (which has since happened). Future looks pretty good long term, but…

Stroud & Swindon Building Society
It does happen to be my local one, so was curious to see on Martin's tips that they offer a 5.5% Instant Access account, but with some strings attached. I've looked on their website and don't seem to find it. Is Martin wrong or am I not looking properly?

Can anyone give me information on what to do now that Abby have cut the interest rate on there postal ISA from 5.35% to 4.90%. Is it normal for the interest rate on a postal ISA to change? Should I be looking to move my money to another account or starting a new ISA (with a diffrent bank) next year?

friendly societies
Is it worth saving with a Friendly Society. Flier from Scottish Friendly Assurance in magazine this week. Tax free interest like an ISA but you need to save for 10 years with max of 25 pound per month. Any shorter deals than this and should I bother with them?

overnight accounts - do they exist?
i've recently sold my flat and currently have a wod of cash sitting in my bank account - getting a measly 3.85% interest. my dad mentioned something called 'overnight accounts' which run for 3 or 5 days, with options to extend - the interest rate being set quite high. banks don't advertise these as it's not really in their…

Investment Query
I am saving up money for a house. At present using Nationwide's online saver account - 4.75% Gross/AER - interest is paid yearly on 31 March. From Martin's e-mail this week I notice he has mentioned Cahoot as offering 4.85% Gross/AER - it sounds better but interest is paid monthly. Is it worth switching accounts? (They are…

Shares question...What does this mean???
As a child my parents decided to invest money for my future in shares, which have been happily left to one side until I started to notice that one set seems to be about to peek, which are held in Excel. Aparently there is a potential take over bid coming from Deutsche Post, who have bid £3.7billion for the company valuing…

£17K to invest, need monthly income
We currently have £24K invested in an A+L account, but the interest is calculated annually. We'd rather invest in an account with monthly interest. We don't want to 'trickle feed' the new account though. We'd rather just invest the full £24K in a lump sum and be done with it. Any pointers to the best option ???
