Pension Planning Query - Small Pot Recycling
Just wondering if people can vet the below plan and point out anything I might have missed. Apologies for the long post - it's quite hard to describe everything without it turning into war and peace. Currently 39 and a member of the USS pension scheme on approximately £52k (recent promotion). To date I have accrued…

Home Responsibilities Protection & Reduced Stamp
Hi My wife is due to receive her state pension from April. Whilst at work she paid the reduced stamp but gave up work when our first child was born in December 1981. Apparently she doesn't qualify for Home Responsibility Protection (ie a credit on her NI payments for her state pension) even after she gave up work as she…

With-profits and transfers
I've been doing a lot of reading to inform future pension choices. I'm 47 and as part of my pension portfolio I have £105k with Aviva that I am examining and considering transferring to my Vanguard SIPP. One of the considerations is the saving in fund charges: 1.00% for the Aviva pension versus 0.39% for the SIPP. My Aviva…

Pension being eaten by charges
I've just realised my pension which I've paid into since 1984 is being eaten by management charges that amount to more than I'm paying in, on top of that the fund lost £600 in the last year:( I'm afraid I'm rather ignorant and have just been filing these pension statements away, it's only recently as the company has been…

From the Gov site, my pension NI record is: 38 years of full contributions. 10 years to contribute before 5 April 2029. 3 years when you did not contribute enough. Then on another page says: Estimate based on your NI record up to 5 April 2019 is £151.67 a week.…

Voluntary NIC - is 2020-21 a 53 week year?
I paid voluntary NICs in 2019-20 by cheque, sent in 52 weeks' worth, only to find it was a 53 week year so to get a complete year I had to pay another week's NIC. I suspect the current year is also-does anyone know for sure? (I would call them but I understand it might not be possible to get an answer at present).

Can’t find an IFA to advise on DB transfer because on increased PII and sub £100k pot!
Hi, This is my first post so apologies in advance if it’s inappropriate or the wrong place but here goes anyway! My wife and I both worked for Nat West in the 80’s, and she did just over 6 years. She turns 55 next month and we have previously spoken with our IFA about wanting to take the “pot” as we wanted to buy a house…

Should I merge pensions?
Hi, I recently changed job and so I now have started a workplace pension with Royal London with my new company. Royal London has a 0.9% Annual Charge (though this will reduce to 0.5% once £35k is held). I have a decent chunk of a pension with Peoples Pension (around £20k), this has an annual charge of 0.5%. I am in my mid…
