Full Pension or Lump Sum
I can retire this year age 50 with an index linked pension of circa 24000 or alternatively a reduced pension of 18000 and a lump sum of 114000. A commutation rate of 19. I'm not taking the full pension. After 65 there would be tax advantages in having a pension lower than the point where the age related personal allowance…

LGPS & AVC's query
My mum retired on 26 Dec 2008. She is in the LGPS and has also paid AVC's into it for many years (invested through Standard Life). As of Friday 23/1/09 she is still being told that it is not possible to calculate how many years she could buy back with her AVC's due to 'waiting on new factors' that apparently came into…

Dormant AVC Account
About 20 years ago I started a savings type account with General Portfolio. I was later persuaded by representative to change it to an AVC. GP then became GAN and was later formed into or was taken over by Windsor Life. About 10 years ago circumstances dictated that I had to suspend payments into the AVC. I don't wish to…

Guaranteed Minimum Pension/early retirement
I have a deferred pension from an ex-employer: the normal retirement age is 65 (in 2012). However, they offer an early retirement option. I asked for a quote for this and was told that they have to pay me a statutory GMP at 65 (because I was contracted out of SERPS). They calculated that if they pay an early retirement…

I am 63 and have a fully paid up pension plan. In view of the current financial situation, would I be better off using the open market option, and putting the cash into a high interest account, knowing that my money is guaranteed by the govrnment , should the bank fail? Unlike an insurance company.
