UK Equity vs. World (exc UK) Equity Investment Fund for Pension

Hi,
Im currently in the process on deciding what pension fund I want my pension paid into. Im 22 years old and so it is early stages for my pension. I have a choice of funds that include equity, bonds and cash. As I am in the early stages of my employment and pension savings, I understand that equities are the best funds for me to pay into to begin with as they can provide a greater return than bonds or cash and due to their volatile nature they are ideal for early stages, while I am no where near to looking at retiring. So my questions are as follows:
1) Do equities seem like the logical option at this stage in my pension scheme; and
2) I have the option to invest it into the UK equity fund or a World Equity Fund (excl. UK) - which one has historically had greater returns (as I can't seem to find this anywhere on the internet) and would this be the best logic to base my decision on? I have the option later down the line to change the proportions of my pension payments so in 10-20 years I could transfer the risk to bonds/cash so that I am not risking all my pension fund in equities.
Thanks for your help.
