Looking to take out a product to supplement my final salary scheme.
Hi all, I'm fortunate enough to be in a final salary scheme with my Police employers (joined about 7 years ago). I transferred seven years of non-contributory pension over and it achieved just over a years worth of service with the Police pension scheme (I did expect this!). I am looking to take out a private pension…

When can you start to make these? Is it only after you have earned what you intend to contribute, or can you contribute in April in anticipation of earnings for later in the tax year?

Surrendered pension problem! Can I restart an old pension?
I took out a stakeholder pension in 1999 with a reputable pension provider but only contributed around £500 in total as I had left the company who arranged it for me in 2000. I contacted the pension provider this year (2009!) and they have told me that the pension had been surrendered due to lapsed payment; I hadn't…

Should I start a pension?
I'm looking for advice in light of a bonus payment I will get from my employer. It's a fair chunk of money and if I just take it as salary then I'll get roughly half, given the tax/PAYE etc. Does anyone know how I can mitigate the loss through a pension? I currently do not have a pension of any type. I invested,…

Claiming State Pension
My wife reaches state retirement age in March, but apart from the last pension estimate we received back in the Autumn we have heard nothing from DWP. We checked on the DWP website where it states that you should be contacted 4 months before the due retirement date and if you've not heard anything from them 3 months before…

About the see an IFA
Hi, just been browsing through this forum and am ever so impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness of people. I will shortly be seeing an IFA to discuss my finances but would love to get some views from people here beforehand. I am 55, took early retirement in 2005 and live quite comfortably off an index-linked final…

Good time to combine my pensions together?
I am in my mid twenties (i.e. not retiring anytime soon) and have a small ~£3000 pension through my previous employer's group stakeholder pension scheme - I'm no longer paying any contributions into this fund. When I moved to my new job 6 months ago I set up a similar pension with them (currently ~£1000). I'm considering…

Pension Options available?

Job Changes, State Pensions and Advice
Hi All, I've been reading around for about a week now on what to do for a pension (ISA or PP or SHP). I can't trust myself so the ISA is out, and (correct me if i am wrong) the PP offers more control over what ratio it is invested in what areas. Anyway, I'm 26 now, I did have a pension at my old work which was moved about…

LGPS new-style additional contributions
Has anybody done the Maths on the new LGPS additional regular contributions scheme allowing you to buy additional chunks of pension in multiples of £250. To my untrained eye it looks quite good, with the benefit of certainty(?) by way of a guaranteed payout at 65 with annual RPI growth. I'm 42 and am considering investing…

Defer payments into ISA instead of pension in 09?? advice
Hi, I have a very small personal pension which I contribute £80 a month into in addition to a works one and was wondering if, considering the poor state of the stockmarket whether it would be more beneficial to put this extra money into ISA instead until things pick up and then transfer back over the money into Pension?…

Early retirement questions
I am a deferred member of a defined benefits scheme, aged 54. I wish to start drawing my pension asap, and have obtained figures from the administrators. As an alternative to taking my pension from the scheme, could I take a transfer and immediately buy an annuity? What would be the mechanics of this, would the transfer…
