LGPS new-style additional contributions

Has anybody done the Maths on the new LGPS additional regular contributions scheme allowing you to buy additional chunks of pension in multiples of £250.
To my untrained eye it looks quite good, with the benefit of certainty(?) by way of a guaranteed payout at 65 with annual RPI growth.
I'm 42 and am considering investing now over a 12 month period.
Any thoughts?
