Received cheque from old mortgage account, don't know why.
I received a cheque from the company I had a mortgage with a few years ago. They say they made a mistake with my first payment and have sent the cheque including 8% extra for compensation. I wonder if this is to prevent me from making a claim for miss selling maybe. I'm a bit puzzled as to why they find this out years…
Unauthorised cancellation of policy
Hello, I would like your expert views on an issue. My husband had a mortgage protection policy with Abbey (now Santander). Back in 2012 he switched banks from Coop to HSBC. We received a letter from HSBC confirming all direct debits had been successfully transferred so we thought all was OK. However, when he was made in…

HMRC compensation
I have been fighting with HMRC for the last 12 months to reclaim tax that I have payed. I have been going round in circles being sent back to the same old departments that don't do anything. I have been told about 20 times that I will be called back but only once has this happened. I have made a complaint about this and…
Reclaiming Auto renewal insurance sent to wrong address for 10 years
Hi, I'm a 1st time poster, so forgive any lapse in etiquette please. I was checking my DDs on my current account and had one from direct line for £18.85. I phoned them and it turns out it was for breakdown on a car I bought in 2005 and sold in 2008. And the paperwork had all gone to an address I left in 2004, despite the…
Council tax liability order - magistrates court -does it impact credit agency rating?
Hi, I have had a Council tax liability order issued to me via a magistrates court for a property I don't own but I am dealing with as part of a will as Executor of the estate. The council have since said this council tax bill was a mistake and the property should be exempt from tax as the owner is dead and probate hasn't…
Council tax for extensions
My parents are disabled, to be closer to them and take care of them I recently built a extension onto my parents house. I was added to the land registry and was able to remortgage the house. I am now trying to figure out what I need to do with regards to council tax. I understand that extensions are flagged to be…
