Looking After Leather Boots
Hi all! I bought some new leather boots that I have only worn twice in dry weather, and already I see that cracks are appearing on the leather at the point where the toes bend. I treated them with "Kiwi Extreme Protector" before the first wear, but I cannot understand why they are cracking already. Could anyone please…

loose or bagged veg - price
I have just made a discovery I want to share in case it is new to other people too! When buying vegetables in the supermarket I always compared the price per kg/lb shown and usually bought the loose stuff as it worked out cheaper as well as liking to select for myself. However, today I looked at some bagged stuff and…

Hello lovely OldStylers, I'm in a bit of a quandary at the moment. I've recently moved into my own place after escaping a very abusive and controlling relationship. To the point that managing on my own is a complete revelation! I'd had no say in financial matters so even getting my name on the bills has been a huge…

Food/Household Budgeting Advice for One Person
Hi there I'm interested in how single MSE savers budget for food/ household items. I am one person household and budget £120 per month (and this excludes toiletries). Really interesting documentary on YouTube oldstyles might like
I've just watched a fascinating documentary from 1969 filmed in a slum area of Nottingham called St Anns. Seeing how the folks lived you would think it was more like the 1920s - coal fire, 3 kids in a bed, outside loo, no bathroom just a zinc bath hung on the wall etc. Here's a link if anyone else want to watch it…

Too late for nematodes?
I have had a plague of the biggest, most horrible slugs this year - even found them in the utility room devouring the cat food! I've been using nematodes for the past couple of months (every 2 weeks) but now I'm wondering if I will be wasting them if I continue to use them during the winter??

Parsnip soup recipe?
Wondered if anyone has an economical parsnip soup recipe they'd like to share? I have 1kg of value parsnips that I'd like to use up. The only recipes I can find have either cream or cheese in them - would like to avoid dairy, generally, if I can. Thanks!

Will this recipe work?
I never have much success with my slow cooker and have lost my confidence cooking in general at the moment. I have put 5 chicken breasts, a diced onion, 3 crushed garlic cloves, a packet of mushrooms sliced, salt and pepper and a tub of single cream and a handful of grated parmesan in the slow cooker with the intention of…
