Turkey mince and hide the sausage ideas
I have turkey mince and sausages in the freezer. Determined to cook using both tomorrow. The sausages were a yellow sticker job, very high mean content, but a bit dry (are gluten free). They're not popular just cooked up as sausages. I'm too mean to bin them, so want to do something with them to hide them. And have never…

alternative uses for cassava chips
I'm working my way though the freezer, and a while back bought a bag of frozen cassava chips. I tried them last night and really, really don't like them - the texture and taste are just powdery and weird. Is there anything else you think I could do with them?

Ideas for party food with gestational diabetes
I've been asked to help organise a surprise baby shower for a friend who has gestational diabetes. Can anyone help me with some ideas for buffet food? Ideally I would like the guest of honour to be able to eat everything on offer, but still present a spread of food that's appetising for her guests. Am I right in thinking…

Please can you educate me about jam?
Hello! I want to make some Sbiten http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Sbiten I'd like to make jars of the mixture minus the water to give as gifts, so the receivers can just add a dollop to their mug and top up with hot water. I know how to sterilize my jars but after that I am a bit stuck. Do I need to heat the mixture up to…

Foods Processor or Mixer??
Hi all, my food processor has broken and I am thinking of buying a new one. I will be honest I only used the one I had about 2 or 3 times a year but found it invaluable for making big batches of pastry. I didn't tend to get it out more often because what I saved in time chopping seemed to be spent washing it all up…

Machine dying sofa cover
Help! I've bought a cotton cover for an ikea sofa bed which I need to dye pink. I've bought enough boxes of dylon, and the item weighs half of the machine's capacity as advised on the leaflet. However, the thing is lightly padded and it only just fits in the washer. I don't want to destroy the thing. Will the dye work if…

Pro's and con's of living in "the sticks"
Hi all, After a little advice if possible please. We got married in October and we're now expecting our second child. DD{7} currently attends a small village school and I drive from the town where we live {6miles away} everyday. We live in Cumbria and the weather here can be awful and the roads we use don't get gritted. We…

Can I dye this?
OH has this hoody: https://www.jinx.com/p/world_of_warcraft_20_frost_resistance_zip_up_hoodie.html?catid=&preview=1&s=warcraft I believe it's screen printed as it feels smooth and slightly rubbery to the touch. Unfortunately the navy has faded to a murky brown in some places which is a shame. Do you think I'd be able to…

Benefits of old style?
Hi all, I was just sat here drinking a nice hot cup of gluhwein with a cinnamon stick and it got me thinking. A few years ago before I became interested in o/s I wouldn't have had the cinnamon in at all. In fact any time I came to cook a meal properly I had to go out and spend through the nose on one off ingredients etc, I…

freezing question

I have some bought frozen puff pastry. Can I defrost this, make sausage rolls (both meaty and veg ones) as well as maybe mince pies and then…

Are there things that you DON'T cook from scratch as its cheaper not to?
I am just wondering, what don't you cook from scratch because its more expensive to? I am trying out fish fingers (HM) this evening but using 'value' white fish fillets as other fish is too expensive for me. It would be cheaper (and probably quicker) to get some frozen fish fingers, but I like that I know what's in it and…

House feels dingy
Hi all, I wondered if anyone has some tips for making an old house feel less dingy? I'm renting and the house really needs some tlc. I keep it clean and tidy, but it just feels sad and dark in there. There's a lot of old, dark wood (both furniture and fittings). Any thoughts very much appreciated! Thanks clf x

Freezing Shortbread Dough
Good afternoon. I have some shortbread to make next week for teachers pressies. I have made it many, many times before but have never frozen it. I know that the dough can be frozen ready to defrost/cook when needed but I need to know how best to store it in the freezer. If I cut it into the shapes, what will be the best…

Re-soling boots
Has anyone had this done successfully? And how much did it cost? I have a pair of leather boots that have big cracks across the sole, so completely unsuitable for wet weather. I've had them re-heeled last year, but now the entire sole needs replacing. I'm wondering if it's worthwhile. Are there certain types of soles where…
