German Bread
We've tried Lidl in Slough, and Aldi in West Drayton, we've tried baking our own. We've even brought bread mix back from Germany, but still we haven't found simple, ordinary, bread from Germany. Does anyone know of a stockist west of London? Curiously, even in relatively small suburban shopping centres in Canada, there was…

Challenge - confess your waste here
I don't mean your jeans size, lol, but I've been thinking that one challenge we haven't had on here is to cut down on what we throw away. Perhaps we could have one each month, which might help us to identify where we are over-buying. Just the act of writing in on here might make us think twice before either over-stocking…

Christmas cake last-ability
Made Delia's christmas cake late october last year, brought it with us to Norway for christmas, but thanks to BA, we didn't see it again until the 26th of Jan:mad: . It was (and still is) regularly fed with brandy:D . How long would a cake like this keep? Is it OK to keep feeding it and have it for christmas this year?

Wicker basket covers
Following the thread a few days ago, I've dug out my old 1971 school wicker basket to use for shopping. However, I don't like leaving my purse on view in it. When I used to use it for school we had plastic covers (like the ones you put under budgie cages) which had a gap in the mddlefor the handle, and elastic round the…

Bringing food back from holidays
When my in-laws recently went on holiday for Spain, we asked them to bring back saffron and almonds, as we know they are much cheaper there than here. This got me thinking, if friends and family go on holiday overseas, what food items would you ask them to bring for you ?(ie that you usually use but are cheaper than in the…

Increasing pattern sizes
I have finally despaired of finding clothes that I like and can afford  so have decided to raid my late Mum's stash of 1950s, 60s and 70s sewing patterns :j . If I find one which isn't my size (which is entirely likely as although I've lost 2 stone I'm not Posh Spice just yet) how do I go about increasing the size.…

Stupid question: Snow for distilled water?
Hi, As there is a lot of it about today Snow i mean. I made some HM gel Air freshner last week and it turned out really good. You have to use distilled water or boiled water. As distilled water is really only water that has been frozen and then defrosted, (i think ) I was wondering could you use melted snow instead of…
