Clingfilm from lakeland
This is a really boring subject but strangely one that has been haunting me... The clingfilm that Lakeland is advertised on 2 pages of their catalogue and costs much more than the stuff you get at the supermarket. Does anyone buy it from Lakeland? If so, why? I keep thinking there's something I'm not understanding bc…

Spilt nail varnish remover on my dressing table
It's a varnished pine one and has a big stain on it. It almost seems to have eaten into the varnish and stripped it to the bare wood. The stain is whitish, but disappears when polished or wet, but reappears as it dries. Clutching at straws here, but does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do, other than buying a new…

In OS fashion I collected a breadmaker from a fellow freecycler yesterday evening - I couldn't wait to try it, but it was late, so I satisfied myself with a quick look through the breadmaker threads. Bright and early today I searched the cupboards - yes, bread making flour, yeast etc Oh dear, yeast is traditional, not…

Kitchen aids
I really want to eat better, if I could I'd love to use fresh fruit and veg, it'd be cheaper and healthier than all the processed rubbish I eat now. The problem is I'm disabled and just peeling a potato leaves me in agony for days. Does anyone know of a gadget out there that can peel veg, slice, grate etc? And that doesn't…

Slow cooker help!
Hi all, After reading all the posts on here, I'd like to invest in a slow cooker. Am I right in thinking this can be left on from when I go to work to when I come back, with no safety concerns? Also does this mean I will have to be preparing the ingredients before work - ie: slaving over a hot stove first thing in the…

Home Made Jam - how long can you store it for?
In particular I'm thinking of the apple and cinnamon recipe that was posted a few weeks ago. Obviously you can't get a vacuum seal on the jars like Robinsons et al do, so how long does it keep? Thinking of making up some small jars for Christmas pressies - have lots of baby food jars given to me, and a glut of apples. :)

Victoria Sponge Cake
I made one of these over the weekend using my new Kenwood Chef (had to get that in :D ). However, not being British, I did it slightly wrong, as I used a large cake tin and only made the one layer - cutting it in half made a mess). Anyhow, to get to my point. Hubby was adamant it had to be made properly and proceeded to…

Old currants - safe to use?
Just made a stir and simmer Christmas cake. Used sultanas dated BBE Aug '06, raisins and currants. However, currants were dated BBE Oct '05:eek:. Have I sentenced as all to a bout of dicky tummy over the xmas hols, or do you think the copious amount of brandy used will deter any bugs?

Home made bread very dense
I have had a breadmaker for quite a while now..but no matter what I do, my bread is always very dense. I make mainly wholemeal/granary type loaves. I follow the recipe to the letter, but it never comes out light and airy, like you can buy in the shops. Is this the way it is supposed to be...or am I doing something wrong?

Has anyone tried this at 30 degrees? Also the only 30 degree programme on…

Sorry got to page 6 and couldn't find the organic veg box thread, anyway someone was asking about honey and lemon beets, had them and they were lovely. £420 pa of food in the bin
I'm sure this is not news to Money Savers but it was reported again in the press recently that each adult in the UK bins £420 of food a year (a further £470 is attributable to the packaging). This is still my biggest waste, and despite good intentions in the supermarket I still throw a lot away (not £420 worth I hope).…
