What is Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix?

Dear MSE members,
I have found a recipe which i would like to try here:

It uses an ingredient: 2 (3.4 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix

Well i have never heard of this, im guessing its an american thing, can anyone please shed any light if we can buy this in this country?

Is it maybe Angel Delight or Instant Whip? That would be fitting with the fact that she says you can use any flavour pudding mix as they come in lots of flavours. Ooh maybe butterscotch would be nice, I might try it.

It is like angel delight....I have a packet in a cupboard that an American friend sent me - you whisk it in with milk and it thickens. It's not actually.. umm... terribly nice....I'd find another recipie if I were you!

I suspect OP's pudding is sorted now. But Google did provide this; I agree that it doesn't look all that appetising.

it is also a german pudding, eaten cold and has the consistancy of jelly , the closest to it would be instant custard pack with vanilla sugar/ powder added.
