Spilt nail varnish remover on my dressing table

It's a varnished pine one and has a big stain on it. It almost seems to have eaten into the varnish and stripped it to the bare wood. The stain is whitish, but disappears when polished or wet, but reappears as it dries.

Clutching at straws here, but does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do, other than buying a new dressing table?

No advice, this is a "me too"?:( I've damaged the veneer on my chest of drawers.

Oh dear! nail varnish acts like paint stripper and the best way to deal with this would be to strip the rest off and re varnish the affected panel.
You say the mark goes when wet, have you tried something like 'Ring away' it works really well on other white marks on wood, might be worth a try.
    Good luck!

I think the answer is to sand it back and re-varnish.

Hi v.lucky, you get ring away in most supermarkets,it usually lives near the furniture polish or dusters,it's a small tube, dark brown colour, can't remember how much it costs but if I have bought it,it wouldn't be too much.

I don't really fancy sanding it back and re-varnishing - wouldn't really know where to start.

Off to look for the ring away - worth a bash at least.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I mix equal amounts of olive oil and lemon juice and then rub a little of this into the ring and leave for several hours or overnight to dry.

Thanks for that Elona, will try it - my local Tesco didn't have any ring away when I visited this evening.

I'm pretty sure that the manufacturers of Ring Away have stopped making it, as I tried to get some a few months ago from my local hardware store, who rang through to their suppliers while I was in the shop and this is what they were told. I also did an internet search for it with no joy. Possibly some places may have old stocks left, but this is a long shot.
